The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation is a valuable partner for Furman University. Thanks to the support of the Sullivan Foundation and the Shucker Center Fellows program, 7 Shucker Fellows had the opportunity to study in Costa Rica for two weeks this summer. The focus of the trip was entrepreneruship, social impact and community engagement. The group joined students from five other colleges and universities to learn the history of Costa Rica's growth and development. They spent a day Universidad de Costa Rica - UCR Sede del Atlántico engaging with students and faculty to learn about their cultural research and to share cultural assumptions and experinces. They met and learned from entrepreneurs at Pollen Keepers, Hola Lola, and Cafe Teca. They visited and they learned about Oxcart manufacturing in Sarchi. They also visited the Poas Volcano and expericed true "Pura Vida" Ziplining, Driving ATV's in the rain forest and relaxing on the last day Isla Tortuga. It was an amazing opportunity! Thank you Dr. Renee Just from Brenau for coordinating this wonderful learning experience on behalf of the Sulllivan Foundation. The Furman Shucker Fellows loved experiencing this trip with other studnets from Brenau University Coker University Lees-McRae College Berry College Davis & Elkins College.
