The day we were air lifted to Charleston with Teyana he asked if he could pray with us I knew at the moment he was the doctor for us! We love you Dr. Malpass and appreciate everything you've done for us.
Day 4 of CHD Awarness Week: What Gives You Hope
Every day we have with Teyana has given me hope and I'm sure have given everyone close to her hope.
Teyana said I give her hope for not giving up on her and always believing in her since she was inside of me.
Day 3 of CHD Awareness Week: What's It like to Be a heart Parent, Caregiver, Sibling Etc :
Her Daddy Response: Itβs a variety of emotions but every day gain you become more grateful.
Her Brother Response: Sad but okay. I kno she been through a lot.
My Response (Mom): It's made me stronger and Teyana's strength has made this journey a lot easier. However, now that she's older & a lot more vocal about what she's going through it's times when she's had surgery where I wish I could take her place. It's made me very humble and I'm grateful to be her mom. She's a handful indeed but I get why she's the way she is because she's been through a lot in such a little time. I wouldn't wish this life on anyone but I'm glad it's my life because it has had its rewards even on the bad days, I'm BLESSED she's still with us. I love being her mom, I love being a heart mom!
Day 2 of CHD AWARENESS WEEK: Surgeries/Procedures
As a Heart Mom or a Mom of a Sickly child in general you don't forget the Surgeries or the Procedures but you start to lose count. Lol. So to sum it up and not to lose my sanity she's had A LOT over the last 10 years! So I'll try to break post the major ones or the ones I remember!
March 26,2014- May 2, 2014- She was born with a few procedures while in PCICU AT MUSC then her. First Open Heart Surgery & 2 Weeks Later G-Tube Placement
Feb 2015- March 2015- Second Open Heart surgery valve replacement with 1/2 procedures in between due to swelling after surgery and feeding issues with G-Tube.
March 2015- June 2018 OH we'll be here all day lol! However she was hospitalized with Staphylococcus Pneumonia that led to Endocartis, coming home with a PICC Line then once getting that out having to get a Stent put in her valve. Among multiple procedures and test involving her being put to sleep for a spinal disorder she has as well, which will involve reoccurring testing. Tubes being put in her ears and beingg told she wasnt as deaf as they intially thought.
June 2018-Today
Like mentioned above multiple testing/procedures involving being put to sleep. She got her Gtube out and her Stoma Closed January 2021, October 2021 she had her third open heart surgery to get her valve replaced.

Day 1 of CHD Awareness Week: Diagnosis Day
In Utero Teyana was Diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle but after she was born she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot.
Tetralogy of Fallot is more complex and consist of 4 problems with her heart, Which is Pulmonary Stenosis, Ventricular Septal defect, right ventricular hypertrophy and overriding aorta.
All of 4 of these defects combined causing the overall amount of oxygen in the blood to be lower than normal can cause her to turn blue. Luckily, Teyana has only turned blue 2 times that I can remember.
Other Diagnosis:
Microtia: is where the external ear didn't fully develop or form properly. But her right ear is fully developed but she does have moderate hearing loss in that ear. She is legally deaf and she's supposed to wear 2 wear two hearing aids which she has hard time wearing both of them. However, since she was 2 she's told is "I can hear" and she may have a hard time hearing but she doesn't miss a beat. However, I learned the day she was born that your heart and your ears start developing at the same time so that also could've been a reason why her left ear didn't develop properly as well.
Syringomelia: the development of a fluid-filled cyst within the spinal cord. The cyst, which is sometimes called a syrinx, can grow larger over time. When it does, it can damage the spinal cord and cause pain, weakness and stiffness. (Yes, I googled this because I wouldn't have been able to explain it lol) By the grace of God we've been monitoring this issue since birth with yearly testing & it's been stagnant! Sadly it didn't go away like we hoped but it hasn't caused her much issues, lately she has complained of numbness in her legs but we don't claim this diagnosis too much because of it can cause paralysis if it gets too bad. We rarely even talk about it!
Stay tuned for Day 2 tomorrow!
