🦁Learning at Lyman🦁

These 5 science teachers, including our very own Mrs. Dickinson, worked on the TPD called Changing Coastlines with the USM Marine Education Center. They’ve spent the week in lessons and in the field practicing skills. They also spent time on Deer Island putting the skills to use in order to record data in elevation profiling, quadrat recording, doing salinity and dissolved oxygen testing, and finishing the day with using the seine and yabby pump to record the sediments and marine life. The week concluded by uploading all information into the computer to look at their findings and compare them to data from the last year. They are so excited to share the process and product with their students next year!

Keesler Federal Credit Union will be donating free school supplies to all kindergartners in HCSD. Parents will need to provide a clear or mesh bookbag. Your child's school will share information on how those supplies will be distributed.

Please welcome Mrs. Erin Cates!

Mrs. Cates is excited to join Lyman Elementary as their new principal. She has served as the assistant principal of West Harrison High School for the last two years. Prior to that, she was the assistant principal at West Wortham Elementary and Middle School for three years. She is entering her 16th year in education. She has served in various roles including teacher's assistant, classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal.

Mrs. Cates has a strong commitment to academic excellence. She is dedicated to fostering a school culture that is positive and focused on growing all students through an engaging and dynamic learning environment.

Mrs. Cates is married to her husband, Justin. Together they have a daughter, Emry who is 12, and a son, Cooper who is 10.

We are so blessed to have a Lyman Legend like Jennifer Moran as a PE Coach. She has such an incredible heart for children and for helping others. To see her making such a positive impact on our community is inspiring.

Lyman has been greatly blessed with some of the greatest educators around. While we are sad to see them leave, we are proud of their successes and grateful for their years of service. We are also excited to celebrate their retirement and the new journey ahead.

Congratulations to Beth Broussard, Shon Davis, Lori Richard, and Lynell Tregle! Thank you for your dedication to our Lyman Lions and to the many lives you’ve touched.

We also took time to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our superintendent, Mitchell King. His leadership and support have shaped our schools and communities in incredible ways. Harrison County is a better place because of your service.

Our Lyman Lions are so thankful for the continued support and encouragement from the leadership and members of Crosspoint Church. They have been such an important part of so many of the best days at Lyman and we are grateful for them. Today they made the day a whole lot sweeter with delicious desserts and treats for the faculty and staff. We have reached the final week of the 2023-24 school year in HCSD! The last day of school is this Wednesday, May 22. It will be a 60-percent day. Please check with your child's school for student early dismissal times.

We ended our Teacher Appreciation week with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” provided by Huntington Learning Center. We are so grateful for their continued support and the meaningful partnership we have with them. The leadership at HLC has played a major role in so many special celebrations this year. Thank you for celebrating our faculty and staff and recognizing excellence in our students.

Today the celebrity faculty and staff at Lyman continued Teacher Appreciation week “Under the Tuscan Sun” with an Italian feast. The super stars from First Baptist Lyman showed up and showed out! The meal was delicious and the company was so kind and encouraging. We are so grateful for your heart for educators and your willingness to serve our community.

We are so thankful for these ladies and all they do to help make our school the best it can be.
