Flash’s unwavering commitment to the T1D community has made a significant impact, not only in the lives of individuals affected by the disease but also in advancing the research that will lead to a cure. It is an honor to recognize and remember Flash for his unwavering dedication to Breakthrough T1D and the T1D community. His contributions have been invaluable, and we are grateful for his tireless efforts towards advocating for a cure for T1D. His legacy will continue to inspire others to join the fight against this devastating disease, and we thank him for all that he has done for the T1D community.

The Breakthrough T1D Advocacy family honors the life of Flash Black – a longstanding Advocacy Team Chair based in Knoxville, TN. Flash was a steadfast leader and champion since his adult son – Rock – was diagnosed as a child.

He was a strong voice on Capitol Hill advocating for T1D research funding and access to affordable insulin and was always ready to serve our mission – at Walks, in media interviews, and in his community.

We’ll fondly remember Flash for his larger-than-life personality, his deep commitment to his son, and his passion to find cures for T1D. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of many!
