Innovative Grant Spotlight
Mrs. Stouffer's students in the Allied Health program at Smithsburg High School used models purchased through the Education Foundation Innovative Grant to learn about various healthcare careers and procedures. The grant allowed the purchase of models to demonstrate intubations and blood draws, both of which are essential procedures performed by health care professions. The use of the models gives the students hands-on experience of procedures they may eventually perform in future careers.Students are excited to be pursuing careers in health care and, with the use of new procedure models, will be more prepared for future classes. We are excited to see continued growth of our allied health program at SHS!

It was a great day for a ball game in support of education. Washington County Public Schools students electrified Meritus Park cheering on their home team the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars! The students energy was contagious, they even started the first โWaveโ at the park!
Mrs. Evers implemented an innovative project at Cascade Elementary called Comfort at Cascade. This project introduced flexible seating in the library, sensory room, and her 4th grade classroom. The project added open minded seating options including a mini sofas, medicine balls, reading nooks, rocking chairs, lap desks, extra stools, bean bags, and cushions.
These flexible seating options allow students to choose an area that best fits their learning style during independent work time, enhancing comfort and focus. Great job, Mrs. Evers, for creating a welcoming and adaptable learning environment! ๐โ๏ธ
Innovative Grant Spotlight! ๐๐ง
Williamsport High School's Equity Lead Teacher, Mrs. Myers, received a grant for her project "Classroom Calming Corners and Sensory Room." Through the implementation of the Wildcat Room, Mrs. Myers has created a controlled environment designed to help students regulate their sensory input.
The Wildcat Room has significantly contributed to social and emotional growth by offering a space where students can develop self-awareness and self-regulation skills. Data analysis shows a decrease in disciplinary incidents this year, as the Wildcat Room provides an alternative to traditional disciplinary measures.
This proactive approach signals to students that their emotional and sensory needs are recognized and valued, fostering a sense of support and reducing frustration. Mrs. Myers' innovation is helping maintain a positive school environment where all students feel supported and valued. ๐ซโค๏ธ
Mrs. Hart from Smithsburg Elementary took Innovation in the Classroom to a new level through her project, ZOME STEM! Funds from this grant were used to purchase ZOMETools for the Gifted and Talented (GATE) program. The ZOMETools proved to be perfect for increasing engagement with mathematical concepts and developing creativity and spatial reasoning skills.
An unexpected but wonderful outcome for students was the development of project planning, communication, and collaboration skills. Kudos to Mrs. Hart for fostering these essential skills and making learning so dynamic and fun! ๐๐

Innovative Grant Spotlight! ๐โจ
Through a collaboration at Sharpsburg Elementary and Boonsboro Elementary, Mrs. Stotelymyer, Mr. Himes, and Mrs. Clinger provided students with an enriching experience. Fourth and fifth grade students engaged in a project called "Global Citizenship Hands on Experience at Shepherd's Spring."
Students engaged in a lesson showing food scarcity across the world, learning how resources are disproportionately distributed. They discussed possible solutions, from small steps they can take to big picture global solutions, and the barriers that stand in the way of solving world hunger. Then, they participated in a global village simulation where they learned to trade and barter. The key to a successful global community, as they discovered, is teamwork and collaboration.
Great job to all involved in fostering these essential skills and perspectives! ๐
