As I was leaving, I asked myself, "What's the worst that can happen? I have to get a new computer and reload everything? Talk about first-world problems!" And in that moment, I realized I wasn't really angry—I was scared.

Many attempts at lifestyle change fail because we try to change too many things all at once. It’s like juggling 12 balls in the air 🤹♀️. Over time, this juggling just gets to be too much, and so we stop all together. We go back to our "old ways" because we never really changed our habits at the foundational level.

Too often, we let negative thoughts and self-doubt dictate our actions and choices. These limiting beliefs can come from 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, or even our own 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬. But guess what? WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THAT NARRATIVE! 💪

It’s nearly July, and many of my clients are going on vacation. In fact, I’m currently on vacation now! As I type this, I am officially enjoying my first day of vacation (my first summer vacation). 🌞
Years ago, when I first began as a trainer, I remember giving my clients workouts while on vacation.
Most of the time, my clients would NOT do the workout while on vacation (duh), and they would return to me, vowing to “be better” now that they are back. That was less than ideal. 🤪

I ensure that the client chooses fairly easy-to-attain minimums but habits that still encourage them to hold themselves accountable. This balance of do-ability and challenge encourages mindfulness and even success. 🏆
This past week, I have discussed with ALL of my clients what their vacation minimums might be and this personal touch that leads them to continuous, long-term change. 🌍
This method also decreases the likelihood of them going on the F-it diet. You know, when you say, “I’m on vacation, so I am no longer on ‘my diet,’ so I’m going to do ____ to excess.” This F-it attitude often makes people feel out of control, guilty, and shameful. And finally, when they get back from vacation, they can “start their diet” or “be good” on Monday. 🚫🍕
