Leading, advocating, educating, and connecting with RNs and LPNs across the Commonwealth. We don’t play politics with important public policy issues.
PSNA understands that protecting the interests of nursing professionals and patients is about building and establishing real trust. We educate and inform Pennsylvania’s leaders with researched, reasoned information and facts. Most importantly, we help policy makers assess the impact of their decisions on the people we serve together. For well over 100 years, we’ve followed this principled, professional path to leadership.
Yes, PSNA and a host of others agree with AANP’s “Health Care’s Rebuke of Reckless Reporting” in response to a recent Bloomberg article highly critical of nurse practitioners. C’mon! Even the Bloomberg title, “The Miseducation of America’s Nurse Practitioners,” disrespects NPs and the vital role they play in our healthcare system. Read what AANP has to say here: https://www.aanp.org/news-feed/health-cares-rebuke-of-reckless-reporting

Hey nurses! It’s National Ice Cream Day, the third Sunday of July! Who knew?
Yes, thank you, House and Senate! Legislation awaits Gov. Shapiro's signature to enable nurse interstate licensing compact to become operational. PSNA has been a vocal supporter.
With PSNA's support, Pa. SB 25 is on the move. Passage will give Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners in Pennsylvania full practice authority, enabling them to practice on their own in rural areas without entering into collaborative agreements with physicians.
Of course we know this. We’re nurses.

Hey nurses, it's National Sunglasses Day! No, not for inside wear, but get 'em on for outside wear. The Vision Council (and PSNA, too) emphasizes the importance of wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun's harsh ultraviolet rays. We know you already know that because you’re nurses, but we couldn’t resist the reminder because we love how fashionable you’ll look with shades and scrubs.
Congratulations to PSNA President Deb Cardenas, DNP, MSN, RN, Paralegal, CPHQ, who received the NIRMH & TAANA Joint Tri-State Symposium 2024 “DEI and Accessibility Improving the Lives and Careers of Nurses Leader” award. It was presented at last week’s Symposium by Kimberly Cleveland, PhD, JD, MSN, RN, C-MBC, C- MPC, President of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys, and Dr. Oralia Dominic (not pictured), Founder and President of NIRMH. Dr. Cardenas delivered remarks at the Distinguished Speaker Luncheon on June 21, plus she and PSNA Board member Dr. Tammi Lining, DNP, MSN, RN, participated in a subsequent panel discussion, “Equal Access to Health Education Opportunities.” What honors that Deb and Tammi bring to PSNA!
It’s National Pink Day! Or so say a bunch of websites. If you’re going to work, wear pink. Not working today? Wear pink anyway. Or drink pink lemonade. Or pick pink flowers. Or paint something pink.
Some “facts” from the site at “calendarr” are these:
*There are many pink shades such as blush, cool pink, rose, and more.
*Different pink shades can have calming or soothing effects on your brain, and some pinks make pastries more appetizing and tasteful.
*Scientists say pink is the oldest color, more than 1.1 billion years old.
*There are no records of who started this day.
True or not true? You decide.
Wake up, nurses! Today is the longest day of the year. At 4:50 pm, summer begins. That means say hello to summer, and look forward to happy days ahead! According to the National Weather Service, the summer solstice “occurs at the moment the earth’s tilt toward the sun is at a maximum.” And since it’s the longest day of the year, we figure you have time for further brain stimulation, specifically by learning some cool etymology. Per CBS News, “The word ‘solstice’ comes from the Latin words 'sol,’ for sun, and 'sistere,' meaning 'to stand still.’” Hot stuff, no?
‘I don’t want to be put in an unsafe situation’: Nurse staffing in crisis in Pa. hospitals Some nurses across the region say that at times they have eight patients under their charge, far too many. That jeopardizes the safety of patients and nurses, and puts undue burden on staff.
Hey nurses! It’s National Take Your Cat to Work Day. Yep, seriously, it is. Just don't tell anyone we told you (well, except for your feline friends).
To our dad nurses and fathers everywhere: It’s your day! Enjoy it, and know that you’re appreciated.
