This , we look at the last semester final from the SP24 Advanced Photography class! Graphic Design student Cecilia Schuster flexed her understanding of perfect light to create some cool portfolio pieces.
Fun fact: Cecilia's Photography journey at CCC came full-circle with the cattle photo--they were one of her very first subjects in the Intro Photography class last year, and they made it into her final for Advanced!

Another round of to pass the time this summer until our students return!
Photography student (and graduate) Emily Maus showed her range with some sports photography, nature photography, and some photos from our fun portrait session!

For this , here is Lauren Matthies' final for Advanced Photography! She has been specializing in event photography and portraits, so she submitted some of her most recent real-life projects! She took graduation photos for a friend, documented the Culinary program's Capstone class, and covered a CCC softball game!

For the Advanced Photography final, the students were told, "Show me something I haven't seen before" and Photography student Colleen Gallion totally delivered!!

So, let's look at some of their amazing work for a !!

For their final project, the Advanced Photography class was challenged to submit "Portfolio Pieces" to show their strengths as a photographer. Video Production student Ethan Bryant leaned into his editing skills for his submission!!

The Advanced Photography class started wrapping up the semester with a photo shoot at The Attic Photo Studio on Tuesday; tomorrow we get to review the rest of the photos!

A huge congratulations to Graphic Arts student Cecilia Schuster and Broadcast student Bethany Brunson, who were celebrated this week at the annual Awards Gala on the Hastings campus!! Their hard work was recognized with Program Honors Awards in the MART department!

To be nominated for a Program Honors Award, students must:
-have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher
-have demonstrated a high degree of program ability
-display good leadership and citizenship
-exemplify the college mission

Look at the fabulous photos that Lauren Matthies Photography took at the CCC softball game this week!!

Instructor Beth Kavan: "For good landscape photography, you really have to have the right place, the right light, and the right time. Good landscape photography usually involves a lot of travel, a lot of planning, and a LOT of luck getting the best weather and lighting conditions. Because you have such a short window of time for this assignment, my overall expectations will be fairly low, as long as you understand the basics."
Photo students: "Oh, okay, we'll go out one weekend and make beautiful stuff anyway LOL."

Congratulations to all members of the Call of Duty: 4x4 squad, but we are especially proud of Ethan Bryant, who is one of our Video Production majors!! 🎮 🎥

Digital Video Production class traveled to the GI campus this morning to get some footage of our amazing EMT training facilities and to interview some EMTs and EMTs in training!! It was a super productive morning and we lucked out with another beautiful morning—now we have A LOT of footage to organize!! 😅

A HUGE thanks to Hastings Fire & Rescue for helping the Digital Video Production class shoot some interviews and footage this morning!! We lucked out with some nice weather and even though we lost the crew for a hot minute when they had a call come in, it was good for some B-Roll shots!!

Every semester, the Photography class learns how to do "Multiplicity" photography; every semester, MART instructor Beth Kavan creates a new photo to illustrate the technique!!

We wrapped up the last class before Spring Break with some "play time" in the photo studio! We experimented with "dollar store lighting" by manipulating light through different objects (all available at your friendly neighborhood dollar store).
We weren't sure if we fully perfected the art of creative lighting but we had fun trying to figure it out and there were a LOT of giggles! 😅

Here are the reverse lens macro photos the Photography class created this morning!!

Every camera lens is marked with a minimum "focusing distance"--there is a limit to each lens regarding how close you can get your camera to a subject and still have your image in focus.
There are ways to "cheat" the focusing distance, such as "reverse lens"--where you literally flip your camera lens backward and shoot with it flipped in the opposite direction!
Here is the difference between what a regular 18-55 mm lens can take, vs. that same lens reversed.

Note: Our show was so big this year, a good part of it is in our Graphic Arts lab, which is a classroom for many of our MART classes—if there is not a class in session, everyone is still welcome to visit!
The best times to access the entire show are Mondays & Wednesdays from 10:00 - 1:00, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:30 - 2:00, and Fridays after 10:00 am! Otherwise, you can still see this portion of the show any time that the Platte Building is open!
