Meet our amazing music-major scholar, Maretha Davel, and her research project, “African Sound: Exploring the Works of South African Composer Clare Loveday.”

“I am constantly inspired by this composer’s work, and she has played a huge role in my decision to study composition. She is a pioneer of New Music in South Africa.
I was recipient of this year's Glenn Glasow Graduate Fellowship in Composition, and I also was accepted into the Julliard School of Music's Extension Program.”

“This week, I had the opportunity to represent my university, California State University, East Bay at the Western Psychological Conference (WPA). I got to meet fellow student-researchers and professors who share the same passion and vigor towards research as me. I was also very excited to finally meet Philip Zimbardo from the Stanford Prison Experiment!
Lastly, I won a Student Award for my research given for outstanding research conducted by a student. There were over 945 submissions, which means my abstract was in the top 2% of all abstracts submitted!
