Lenoir-Rhyne Debate has historically been an important element of the college experience at Lenoir-Rhyne University. The debate team ended in the early 90's, but we were blessed to be restarted in theory in 2012. We began competing at intercollegiate debate competitions again in 2013. Our goal as an organization is to spread education and critical thinking to as many audiences as possible via deba

While no one makes it to the finals, our Bears get some great experience at the University of Lynchburg. We look forward to getting our ballots and turning them into some meaningful improvements in our speeches.

A couple of important pieces of info:
1) We are having our self-advocacy workshop today from 3-5 PM in the Fireside Room in the Cromer Center. Make sure to come and check it out!

2) We are headed to our second competition of the year this weekend held at the University of Lynchburg. We have three students competing with two doing so for the first time: Kiera Elliott, Maliya Marshall-Simmons, and Hayley Moore. Make sure to stay tuned as we go back on the hunt for academic and competitive excellence!

The LR Speech and Debate Team is proud to present a public event coming up on November 4th from 3-5 PM in the Fireside Room (in Cromer). The event is a self-advocacy workshop designed to match curious students with members of the team and administrators from the university that can provide helpful research and resources. These resources will hopefully enable students to feel more aware of and confident using their knowledge and self-advocacy skills. Our hope is that students feel more empowered and capable of creating change. We will cover five areas: financial literacy, women's issues, mental health, diversity, and legal issues. We really hope that you will come check it out!

I can say that we accrued enough points as a team to win 6th place sweepstakes. Go Bears!

While none of our Bears are finalists, we had a great tournament. Jalen, Emaiya, and Kiera got some phenomenal experience at their first competition ever! Keep an eye out for these folks. They're coming for your trophies soon!

Day two at Randolph-Macon has already begun. The Bears are hoping to finish up strong. Stay tuned to find out if any of our students make it to the finals!

The LR Speech and Debate Team is so excited because we get to resume in-person competitions this year! We are currently on the way to our first competition of the year, Randolph-Macon College. We have three new students participating for the first time. Jalen Carter is competing in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Emaiya Figueroa is competing in Persuasive Speaking, and Kiera Elliott is competing in Declamation. I am very proud of the handwork that all three have put in to prepare. Wish us luck as we start rounds today beginning at 1 PM.
