"It is time for the town of Hingham to recognize the work and dedication that paraeducators put forth every single day. For our most vulnerable children in our Hingham schools. Time for Hingham to budget for a living wage for
paraeducators. Look to these people who support your Special Ed. every single day. You need to budget for them now."
- Bonnie McArthur, parent, resident, and paraeducator at the Hingham Select Board Meeting 2/7

DID YOU KNOW? Hingham’s paraeducators get NO PAY over vacation weeks, pushing some into a negative paycheck because of the 50/50 health insurance split Hingham offers.
"I implore you budget committee and school committee to give the teachers and paras a fair contract. Show them your appreciation."

"I have a master's degree in special education and I make $18.23 an hour. That comes out to about $21,700 a year, not counting taxes and the 30% of my paycheck that goes to health care alone."
- Meagan Hodges, Paraeducator

"Unlike most towns in Massachusetts, Hingham pays the absolute lowest percentage allowable by law for health insurance premiums. This is one of the main reasons why so many paraprofessionals are leaving the district. As a resident of the town of Hingham, it is egregious and outstandingly embarrassing that many paras in Hingham write a check in some months to repay the town as they do not earn enough to cover the health insurance costs."
- Cynthia McKeon, resident and teacher at Foster elementary at the Hingham Select Board Meeting 2/7
