The Psychology Club has three primary missions in serving the students and faculty of the Hawaii Pacific University Psychology Department: [1] academic (e.g., hosting symposiums, the department's annual conference, guest lectures, and career information), [2] social (e.g., picnics, movie nights, student-faculty get-togethers, etc.), and [3] service (e.g., creating or engaging in fundraisers, volunteering with community service organizations and charities, participating with other clubs at HPU in university service projects and events, etc.).
Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology. Our award-winning chapter has an outstanding history of excellence, having been named by the Psi Chi Central Office as a "Model Chapter" consecutively since the 2007-2008 school year. Less than 3% of chapters typically achieve this status in a given year and no other chapter in the state ever has. Membership in Psi Chi is exclusive, earned by a record of academic excellence, and has a one-time membership charge. For the current requirements and fee, see www.hpu.edu/PsiChi.
While the membership requirements differ for these two student associations, there is usually much overlap in officerships, membership, and in the activities and missions of both groups. Hence, this single page for both.
Students majoring in Psychology at HPU are STRONGLY encouraged by the department faculty to become members of the Psych Club as soon as possible during their time in our programs and to work diligently towards membership in Psi Chi and to apply as soon as one is eligible. Taking your membership in one or both groups to the level of an engaged officer and demonstrating your leadership is one of the best things a student can do in the eyes of the faculty.
