A violinist played for 45 minutes in the New York subway. A handful of people stopped, a couple clapped, and the violinist raised about $30 in tips.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. In that subway, Joshua played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. And two days before he played in the subway, with again not many people appreciating his skills .

Joshua Bell sold out a Boston theatre, and the seats averaged about $100.

The experiment proved that the extraordinary in an ordinary environment does not shine and is so often overlooked and undervalued.

There are brilliantly talented people everywhere who aren’t receiving the recognition and reward they deserve. But once they arm themselves with value and confidence and remove themselves from an environment that isn’t serving them, they thrive and grow.

Your gut is telling you something. Listen to it if it’s telling you where you are isn’t enough!

Go where you are appreciated and valued.

Happy National Theater Day!

Theater has been a large part of my life …as long as I can remember. I think I was seven years old (in Omaha, NE) when my mom took my sisters and I to see our first stage production - BYE BYE BIRDIE. I was bit!🫦

Since then, I have had the privilege, the pleasure and the first-hand experience of realizing the many magical aspects of live, musical theater. 🎭 And how much fun IT has been!

My personal hope is that many more generations of thespians, directors, musical directors - supporters of all things theater - continue to come together to develop, enjoy and share the very best of their unique talents with the World. Thank you to ALL who have personally touched my own life with their unique gifts.

Thank you, cast and crew, of DHT’s La Cage Aux F***e. Opening night was so very enjoyable. May your run be met with great success.

The stage, the lights, the graphic backdrops… the costumes, the hair, the make-up… Shout out to Aiki Schick! All so very well done.

Watching my old theater pals - Kim Anderson, Heather Taylor, Fabienne Flandre-Herold, Shari Lynn, Brittany Lewis, Federico Biven - share their many gifts… filled my heart so.

Besides their obvious, great talents… there were (at least for me) a few EXTRA special highlights. Andrew Sakaguchi, 🔥 those legs!!! Guy Merola, you danced 💓 so very well!!! What great chemistry between you two. I cried …twice. LOOK OVER THERE.😢

Another wonderful show, Mr. Rampage! Bravo!

"There was so much cruelty directed toward Patti [LuPone], so much envy. Students came into Juilliard, and they were like mounds of clay, inside of which was the talent, the great performances--but Patti came in and she was a mountain. There was no one else like her. Huge talent, will, intelligence. Of course she was a disorganized person, because it was the first time she had been asked to work on her talent and herself, and I wanted to protect her, wanted to gently lead her toward discovery.

"John Houseman hired me for what he called my gentleness, my awareness of literature, and he would ask me what we could do about Patti. It bothered John that Patti didn't know poems or plays by memory. He would make quips, and Patti appreciated them, but she didn't know the source. I thought this was cruel. It was snobbery. I told John this. I loved John, but he was often guilty of forcing an actor into a particular mold.
