Check out what the Parkdale Grange Volunteers did! They put together and delivered 24 'Birthday Boxes' for FISH families celebrating birthdays this month. Each box includes a cake mix, a can of soda (replaces the egg & milk), frosting, balloons, plates, napkins, a birthday card, and even the baking pan! It's a birthday party in a box! What a cute and thoughtful idea. Great project to get the kids involved in volunteering too! 🎂🎈

A heartfelt shoutout to the Central Gorge Master Gardeners - OSU for their incredible contribution to our community! 🌿 Their hard work in cleaning up the native Hedgerow around the FISH Food Bank garden is truly appreciated. This Hedgerow plays a crucial role in protecting the garden from wind, allowing it to flourish and provide fresh vegetables to FISH clients. 🥕🍅🌽 What an example of the power of community collaboration. 🌱🍓 Calling all green thumbs and nature enthusiasts! 🌿🌻

Our wonderful garden, the source of fresh, organic veggies and berries for FISH Food Bank, is in need of some helping hands! 🤲🏽

The Master Gardeners are gearing up for a fun volunteer day on March 20th from 1-3pm. We'll be busy weeding, planting, and mulching a native hedgerow. This special addition will not only serve as a windbreak but also as a pollinator garden for our beloved crop fields. 🦋🌾

No experience necessary! We'll provide the tools, but if you have a favorite weeding tool, feel free to bring it along. The more, the merrier! 🛠️✨

You can find us behind FISH Food Bank and Spirit of Grace Church at 1130 Tucker Road, Hood River. Just follow the scent of fresh soil and growing plants! 🏡🍃

Got questions or want to sign up? Reach out to Tracy Willett at [email protected]. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

Our Story

FISH Food Bank is a volunteer-based organization with three part-time employees. Volunteers take turns opening the food bank each week, providing groceries to those in need of emergency or occasional food assistance. Those groups of volunteers include members of churches, fraternal organizations, businesses, schools, and families. Other volunteers track food donations, stock shelves, pick up donations from local grocery stores, clean the sites, deliver food to shut-ins, and perform a myriad of other jobs, all done to keep FISH Food Bank operating efficiently and smoothly.

FISH benefits from donations of food from people, businesses, and farms throughout the community. FISH is also a partner agency of the Columbia Gorge Food Bank, a transitional program of the Oregon Food Bank. In 2018, the Oregon Food Bank provide FISH with more than 85,000 pounds of free USDA commodities, and more than 28,000 pounds of fresh produce. Their support along with local community support and fundraisers let us help more than 2,300 adults and 1,200 children in 2018. Other important support comes from the United Way of the Columbia Gorge.

Celebrating 50 years of service to our community in 2019, we welcome new volunteers and donors. Visit our website at fish-hood-river.com http://www.fish-food-bank.com/history.html for more information.
