As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Enrique used to feel pressure to meet others’ expectations.
“For as long as I can remember, I found myself code switching to ‘fit’ different environments and spaces I occupied, both professionally and personally, for fear of being judged or rejected,” he says. “Because I was constantly altering who I am for so many years, I wasn’t living up to my full potential. I wasn’t happy. I didn’t feel fulfilled. Why? Because I wasn’t my authentic self.”
Through his personal growth, he’s found strength in living authentically. That’s why Pride Month serves as an important reminder for him to stay true to himself in every aspect of life.
“Now, I continue to bring my authentic self to any and every space, which has helped me achieve many personal and professional goals that I likely wouldn’t otherwise achieve,” he says. “This Pride Month, I encourage you to be unapologetically you.”
It’s that strength that has allowed him to support others in his role as a senior internal communications representative and member of Memorial Hermann’s PRIDE Alliance Employee Resource Group (ERG).
“Representation matters and by bringing my true, authentic self to work every day, I help foster a safe and welcoming environment for all members of the communities we serve.”
