Texas Touring Roster artist Brave Little Company is here to engage young audiences-- one of their shows brings Shakespeare to children as young as three years old!
Brave Little Company is theater for everyone. Founded in 2013, BLC received the 2023 TYA/USA National Award for Artistic Innovation, reflecting its national significance in creating new works for young people. BLC creates theater the way kids play. When children engage in unstructured, imaginative exploration, their creativity is at full power, and they are at the center of the story. BLC’s plays may include found object puppetry, sensory storytelling, STEAM and literacy themes, and a meaningful role for the audience in driving the story. BLC has an extensive record of local, national, and international theatrical partnerships, and of collaborating with Houston’s diverse communities. BLC produces live public performances in Houston, the Missing from the Museum web series for national audiences, and The Big “Us” Project, a collaborative theater initiative led by 100 refugees. BLC brings dual-language performances and multilingual workshops to schools, libraries, and community venues. English/Spanish productions include the original play First Day, Nueva Escuela, about a girl who overcomes her reluctance to read by writing herself into stories; and Wooden O, a sensory Shakespeare adventure for ages 3-6. BLC offers inclusive creative opportunities for students with disabilities. Bookings include extension activities for teachers. About TAKING STEPS
A tongue-tied solicitor has bitten off more than he can chew overseeing the sale of a crumbling, possibly haunted house that, um, used to be a brothel. Then, in the course of one hectic night and morning, two couples, along with the solicitor and realtor (each immersed in their own personal problems) end up in more of a mess than ever. And it all happens in a highly ingenious and original theatrical setting in which all the rooms, passages and stairs of this three-story house are on a single level!
Oh, and did we mention there’s a ghost?! Let’s just say that in this British farce by the brilliant Alan Ayckbourn, hilarity definitely ensues! https://mainstreettheater.com/taking-steps/
