How to…lose your house to Medicaid. 🏡 🙁
Here’s something a lot of people don’t realize:
After you use Medicaid to help pay your long-term care, Medicaid will want to recover those funds and might place a lien on your house.
Don’t want to lose your house?
There are a few options, thankfully! Send us a message if you have questions about which plan is best for you.
What if…I already have a trust? Do I still need a will?
👉 Yep, you do. Why?
There are two big things that a will can do, but a trust can’t.
You can’t name a guardian in a trust, but you can in a will.
A trust doesn’t automatically cover all of your assets, but a pour-over will does.
Once you have a trust, all you need is a pour-over will to be the “catch-all” in case you acquire more property in the future so it automatically includes it in your plan.
It’s kinda like a backpack 🎒 that carries everything for you.
Need help figuring out trusts and wills? Send us a message and let’s chat.

Meet Nathan! We are so blessed to have him on our team.
Nathan C. Hill is a native of Meridianville, Alabama where he grew up playing baseball for various local teams. He graduated from Hazel Green High School in 2008. He is also a graduate of Troy University with a B.S. in criminal justice. At Troy, Nathan set multiple school records as a relief pitcher for the Troy Trojans baseball team, and still holds the record for appearances in a single season. Nathan helped Troy baseball win conference championships in 2011 and 2013; he was also part of the first Troy athletic team to achieve a top-25 ranking in Division 1. He relished the opportunity to face competition from future professional baseball players and SEC opponents. Nathan decided to further his education at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama, where he graduated in 2017. Nathan joined the firm shortly after graduation and is focusing his practice in the areas of insurance defense litigation and personal injury law.
His years on the pitching mound has helped Nathan be dauntless in his legal practice. Nathan also enjoys serving his community through volunteering with the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers. Nathan has returned to his roots in Hazel Green, where he is raising his family with his high school sweetheart, now wife Melissa.
In his spare time, Nathan is a BBQ enthusiast, smoking a variety of foods for his friends and family to enjoy.

November is National American Indian Heritage Month!
What started at the turn of the century as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions the first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the U.S., has resulted in a whole month being designated for that purpose.
One of the very proponents of an American Indian Day was Dr. Arthur C. Parker, a Seneca Indian, who was the director of the Museum of Arts and Science in Rochester, N.Y. He persuaded the Boy Scouts of America to set aside a day for the “First Americans” and for three years they adopted such a day. In 1915, the annual Congress of the American Indian Association meeting in Lawrence, Kans., formally approved a plan concerning American Indian Day. It directed its president, Rev. Sherman Coolidge, an Arapahoe, to call upon the country to observe such a day. Coolidge issued a proclamation on Sept. 28, 1915, which declared the second Saturday of each May as an American Indian Day and contained the first formal appeal for recognition of Indians as citizens.
The year before this proclamation was issued, Red Fox James, a Blackfoot Indian, rode horseback from state to state seeking approval for a day to honor Indians. On December 14, 1915, he presented the endorsements of 24 state governments at the White House. There is no record, however, of such a national day being proclaimed.
The first American Indian Day in a state was declared on the second Saturday in May 1916 by the governor of New York. Several states celebrate the fourth Friday in September. In Illinois, for example, legislators enacted such a day in 1919. Presently, several states have designated Columbus Day as Native American Day, but it continues to be a day we observe without any recognition as a national legal holiday.
In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations, under variants on the name (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”) have been issued each year since 1994.

Today's Spotlight is on Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund.
The Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation gives the tiniest, most vulnerable patients the best chance of survival. More than 1,100 infants from across the region are cared for annually in Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children’s Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – North Alabama’s only Level III NICU. Generous community donors ensure the NICU has cutting-edge technology so that every baby receives the most appropriate level of care.
In November 2005, Amy and Chris George established the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund in memory of their infant daughter Melissa Suzanne. The Georges’ twin daughters, Melissa Suzanne and Ann Catherine, were born 14 weeks early, and Melissa passed away just a few hours after birth. Ann Catherine, now a healthy teen, spent the first 68 days of her life in the NICU at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. Amy and Chris were so grateful for the care their daughters received, that they felt compelled to give back. Since that time, the Georges and generous donors to Huntsville Hospital Foundation have raised millions of dollars to provide lifesaving equipment, innovative technology and meaningful programs that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
