Music & Movement will allow children to explore & experience elements of music & movement through play-based activities.
Join us on Wednesday mornings for this fun and engaging class designed just for preschoolers.

Save the date! Saturday, August 24, 2024, Alabama Youth Ballet Theatre will be holding free open auditions for ages 7 through adults. Dancers must be enrolled in at least one ballet class at a local studio.

This also means it's time for AYBT'S annual mum fundraiser! Today, July 23rd, we officially kick off our annual sale.
🤗This fundraiser is very important to AYBT. By making a purchase of a pot of mums, you'll help contribute to our scholarship and costume funds.

Our fundraiser ends Aug. 12, so get your orders in before time runs out! Plants should arrive mid to late September. Just in time to start decorating for fall!

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Our alumni workshop is TOMORROW! Be sure to click the link in our bio or story to sign up. Leanne will be teaching our classical jazz class from 3:50-4:35. Her bio is below!
Leanne Denman is currently attending Belhaven University where she is a double major in Dance and Elementary Education and is also on the Belhaven Cheer Team. She grew up in Huntsville, Alabama where she performed and took dance classes in ballet, pointe, partnering, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, liturgical, tap, and modern. She has also taught and assisted with dance classes at various studios in the Huntsville and Jackson areas. Leanne has a passion for teaching children both in academics and dance, and she is always working to gain more knowledge in these areas.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Charlotte is attending the University of Alabama with a major in Kinesiology with a clinical concentration. Her favorite style of dance is probably traditional ballet but modern is a close second. Her class will mainly be conditioning with injury prevention mixed in. Some of my favorite roles she had at AYB were Sugar Plum, Dew Drop and Chinese!

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Today we’re highlighting ! Julia will be teaching our contemporary class from 4:40-5:25. Her bio is below :)
Julia Huskey is a professional dancer and choreographer who received her BFA in Dance, Summa Cum Laude, from Troy University in Alabama under the instruction of James Boyd, Dominique Angel, and Adrienne Hicks, where she found and grew a love for modern and contemporary. Her early training is credited to Keren Gibb-Hilliard and David Herriott at Alabama Youth Ballet, where she was classically trained in the Vagonova and Balanchine ballet styles. She has worked with and performed works by Take Ueyama, Eric Handman, Lindsey Maethis, Lloyd Culbreath, James Kinney, Kelsie Metz, Katie Breland, Dominique Angel and Brynt Beitman. Currently a freelance artist, Julia has had the opportunity to be commissioned to travel to a number of schools and work as an educator. She has had the honor to train and perform in multiple festivals including the DAP Festival in Pietrasanta, Italy, the Alabama Dance Festival in Birmingham, AL, the LINK Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Ballet Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Julia is currently based in Huntsville, Alabama and is an active freelance artist.
Her favorite style of dance is contemporary, and has loved getting to know so many guest artists through Troy, especially in Italy! Looking back at ayb, her favorite to date are Aurora and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Morgan Holder is a dancer and choreographer originally from Scottsboro, Alabama. She recently graduated summa cm laude from The University of Alabama with a BA with honors in dance and English and a minor in The Blount Scholars Program. Morgan is excited to continue her dance education in the fall as a Fulbright grantee at the University of Roehampton in London where she will be an MFA candidate.
While at UA, Morgan was a member of Yonder Contemporary Dance Company, Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre, Dance Alabama, and the inaugural class of the Emerging Choreographers’ Showcase. She has also had the honor of being awarded the Edith Barnes Award for Choreography, Writing, and Dance History; the UA Dance Community Connections Award; and the UA Arts and Sciences Support for Undergraduate Research (ASSURE) grant. Morgan has performed and presented choreography at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as the American Dance Festival Student Concert. She is excited to return to AYBT and share her knowledge, insight, and experience with the next generation of dancers!

Elizabeth Smith has a heart for performing, choreographing, and teaching the art of dance. A recent graduate of Troy University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, she trained under Dominique Angel, James Boyd, Adrienne Hicks, and Jerome Stigler with focuses in ballet, contemporary, and modern technique. She also enjoyed the opportunity to perform in works by guest artists like Take Ueyama, Daryl Gray, and Lloyd Culbreath. Elizabeth is enthusiastic about encouraging and loving others through dance, and she aspires to glorify God in all things.

While in high school she was on the Images Dance Team where she performed in a variety of locations including pep rallies and showcases with student choreography.
Today she is a Corcoran Scholar majoring in dance and biology at George Washington University where she is expanding her dancing and choreographic repertoire to include modern and postmodern techniques. She was most recently in the Guest Artist piece Continuous Replay by the Bill T. Jones Company. She is also a board member of Balance: The GW Dance Group where she has performed in a variety of pointe, ballet, jazz, and contemporary pieces as well as taught classes for new members. Her solo choreography work Car Talk was recently shown at the National Gallery of Art in April. Her newest co-choreographed work with Rebecca Kaplan Arlanda, a ballet work, was performed in May during the Balance Renaissance Showcase.

We are excited to have our first Alumni Day on Sunday, July 14! Some of our college dancers are going to teach classes based off of new dance styles they’ve learned in the last few years. This workshop is open for anyone ages 10 and up. Swipe left for more info!
