on this to an incredible event hosted by HudsonAlpha at Stovehouse!
Craft beer enthusiasts and scientists gathered for the “Cheers to Alabama Barley” tap takeover event earlier this summer, where attendees enjoyed craft beer made with locally-grown barley and learned the science behind brewing. The event showcased a collaborative effort to boost Alabama’s brewing industry and create an economic pipeline for the state.
The event featured beers from Brewers Cooperative, Cahaba Brewing Company, Goodland Pour House and more, highlighting the potential of barley as a profitable winter crop alternative in the southeastern U.S.
Cheers to Alabama Barley was made possible by a statewide project funded by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, with collaborators from HudsonAlpha, Auburn University, and Alabama A&M University. Together, we’re helping local farmers and brewers create a sustainable future for Alabama’s brewing industry.
Celebrate by raising a glass to local innovation and sustainability!
Hear from the HudsonAlpha President!

When Major General Lynn Collyar, USA, Ret., suffered from a heart attack and was placed on medication, he didn't know several of the medications he was taking weren't having their desired effect. After receiving genetic testing at the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine, Gen. Collyar learned he has a change in his DNA that means common medications prescribed to heart attack survivors don't always work for him. These life-saving results helped him and his cardiologist identify medications that worked better for him.

A genetic health risk could mean you have a change in your DNA that makes you more likely to develop certain types of cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, and other common health risks. Genetic testing to identify these risks is life-saving because knowing early can lead to earlier or more frequent screenings. It can even let you know if certain family members may also be at risk of developing these conditions.
When you make a donation to HudsonAlpha's Annual Fund, you're supporting programs like the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine, that offer genetic testing services to help access this important health information.
