This course is one of the most affordable study abroad programs in the IU system! And, unlike many other study abroad programs, the Poland program fee includes airfare, which can be a substantial saving!

Courtney Gould graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.

Courtney has assumed the position of Operations Manager for Indiana owned, a branding and promotions company for local small businesses.

In her role at Indiana Owned she wears many hats including; attention to detail, strong communication skills, content writing skills, persuasion, and leadership.

Here are some kind words Courtney has to say about our department.

“The Department of Communication Studies at IUPUI definitely helped prepare me for post-grad by offering a wide range of courses for me to select. In short, I think Comm Studies teaches you how to master the fundamental soft skills that so many professionals tend to overlook.”

Nicole graduated in December as a member of the class of 2022. She graduated with two degrees, one in Communication studies and the other in English Literature.

Nicole was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and Lambda Pi Eta, and was involved in Jagathon and volunteered for English Week. Nicole enjoys watching anime and reading, and has a cat named Squirrel.

Nicole currently hold a remote internship at Pure Carbon Publishing, a new book publishing company based in Phoenix. Her responsibilities include proofreading manuscripts, making graphics for the company's Instagram account, and writing reviews for upcoming books. After her time at Pure Carbon is over, she plans to continue working in the book publishing industry and eventually get her own novel written and published.

Lydia Davey Crosby is a career storyteller with expertise in leading high-performing global public relations and communications teams. Lydia currently serves as Senior Communications Manager at Hipcamp - the world’s largest provider of outdoor stays. As leader of Hipcamp’s brand communications and public relations, Lydia sets and executes strategy to increase customer awareness and help Hipcamp gain market share globally. Previously, Lydia led content marketing for a B2B offering at Apple. Prior to that she founded a public relations firm in Silicon Valley, and early in her career served around the globe as a U.S. Marine Combat Correspondent. Today she serves on the boards of several international nonprofits, and lives in California with her husband and three children.

Bri Hall graduated in December as a member of the 2022 graduating class. During her time at IUPUI, she interned at the National Panhellenic Conference where she oversaw all the sororities in the nation. She also interned at Visit Indy right before graduation, where she assisted with College Football Playoff tasks, wrote pitches to send to writers across the country, and curated social media content to spread across Indy and nationally.

She has accepted a full-time position in Indianapolis, where she gets to put her communication, graphic design, and social media skills to use.

Bri is currently rebranding her own marketing agency called Bri Marie Media. She has been working in it over the past year, and she has put a lot of time into it post-graduation.

Stephen LeBeau Jr. is a 1999 graduate of the Department of Communication Studies. He has completed his Master in English from IUPUI, and is currently working on his Ph.D. in Education Leadership with the IU School of Education.

LeBeau has held many roles at IUPUI including; research associate for the International Center for Intercultural Communication, or the ICIC, leader of the Speakers Lab, and Lecturer and Director of COMM-R110.

After leaving IUPUI, LeBeau moved to Western California University as an Educational Developer and Faculty Member, followed by Kean University (NJ) as Associate Director for Kean Online.

His current role is at Syracuse University as the Director of Operations for the Office of Student Success.

Stephen met his wife right here at IUPUI, he picked her up from the airport during his time as a research associate for the ICIC.

Dr. Goering is highly praised by Stephen when talking about his academic career, one of her classes was the reason he decided to study communication.

Born in Mexico City, Luisa moved to the United States at the age of five and has called Indy home ever since. She currently serves as the Community Outreach and Fan Engagement Manager for the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Luisa is responsible for executing experiential marketing activations and building diverse audiences for the “Racing Capital of the World” and the INDYCAR Series. She graduated from IUPUI in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Latino Studies. Luisa’s career has included roles in community outreach and marketing at the Office of International and Latino Affairs for the Mayor of Indianapolis, Indy Eleven, and the Indy Chamber. Luisa is a strong and influential leader who contributes her time building a more welcoming Indianapolis community. Luisa was inducted into the Indianapolis Business Journal “20 in their Twenties” Class of 2021 and is part of the 1818 Project Class XI Presented by Citizens Energy Group. She serves on various boards and committees that include: Prospanica, Immigrant Welcome Center, Paramount Health Data Project and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. In her free time, you can catch Luisa hiking her favorite trails or taking a trip abroad. Luisa currently resides in Carmel, Indiana with her husband, Cole, and their Yorkie, Cosa.

Mr. Mike is going on his 18th year at IUPUI where he is a professor, academic advisor, and the department’s director of internships. He has climbed some… of Mt. Fuji in Japan, and walked some… of the Great Wall of China. Mr. Mike is a classic rock fan, a baker, and a Greek dancer. Now if you couldn’t tell by this point in his bio, Mr. Mike is also a standup comedian, he definitely allows his comedic personality to shine through when teaching. Mr. Mike is a member of the Comm Cat Club (along with Dr. Bute and Dr. Head) and the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. In his family there are two parents, two boys, two dogs, two cats, two guinea pigs, and two fish. He proposed to his wife in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, one of the fifteen countries he has traveled to. His four core focuses in his approach to teaching are; Engagement/Active Listening, Storytelling/Self-Disclosure, Questions/Reflections, and of course humor.

Emily Gregory is a 2015 graduate of the IUPUI Department of Communication Studies. She graduated with a degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Sociology. Gregory is the founder and owner of Meatless Meals, LLC. The idea of Meatless Meals stemmed from a project in COMM-G100 that tasked students to create a mock business, and she transformed that project into a reality. Gregory is a long-term vegetarian, which makes this work a passion project for her.
