Our Youth Tree Team and Urban Naturalists got together to learn about environmental careers at our Future in Forestry Workshop! 🌳

They connected with leaders from all over the city to learn about tree health assessments, how trees and plants impact our waterways, school forestry resources, and entrepreneurship in the environmental industry.

Removing plants can seem counterproductive. 🌿

During a Riparian Restoration, our team guides volunteers to identify "invasives” that are harming the ecosystem by stealing space, sunlight, and nutrients from other plants essential to local wildlife.

Our Urban Naturalists hit a home run at Victory Field ⚾️ with SavATree Careers' Alec Johnston! They learned about tree health assessments, pest treatments, and the tree care industry. 🌳

Thanks to a grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the UN program is on deck to create future tree care professionals. The grant also covers maintenance and data collection for KIB trees.

Through these experiences, the UNs are stepping up to the plate and gaining insights and skills for their future careers.

You never know what you'll find during our plogging events 🤷‍♂️ but you are guaranteed to make a difference and have a lot of fun!

Thanks to The Patachou Foundation for having our Urban Naturalists out to their Urban Farm. Our UNs learned about Patachou's mission and initiatives, while helping to harvest strawberries and trellis tomatoes. And of course, hang out with some chickens! 🐓

Last week, Cummins Inc joined Project GreenSpace for their second project of 2024. With their help, we were able to lay 7 tons of flume (that's 14,000lbs!) to create a gravel walkway, as well as spread four cubic yards of mulch.

We look forward to having Cummins back this fall for their third KIB project! ✨

ICYMI: We've teamed up with American Forests to create the Tree Equity Score Analyzer for Marion County, Indiana. 🎉

This new mapping system will assist Marion County in prioritizing where to plant more trees to help with:
🌡️ Rising temperatures
💧 Capturing and containing storm water
💨 Cleaning the air

Thank you IndyStar for highlighting TESA and how it will raise awareness and allow people to engage in informed conversations around tree equity.

New tech helps Indy plan where to plant trees to reduce effects of rising temps, flooding American Forests and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful partnering to create a new digital tool to help determine where to best plant trees in Marion County.

Squad goals 💪

Earlier this month, our Youth Tree Team joined forces with our Urban Naturalists at Brookside Park for a habitat restoration.

With many hands, and guided by the UN’s great knowledge, this project was filled with fun and rewarding work!

Last week, the Young Professionals of Delta Faucet joined us at Gethsemane Lutheran Church GreenSpace for an impactful workday.

Together, they filled 44 overflowing trash bags with 440 pounds of weeds and cleared 357 feet of planting beds! 🌱

Thanks to these volunteers for helping us to create a thriving, public GreenSpace!
