The Center for Black Cultures, Resources & Research @ UCI operates on our 4 Pillars of Success: Life & Vitality☥, Health 𓋴, Prosperity-Uja, & Balance-Ma'at
Our mission is to provide a just, safe, culturally supportive and socio-ecologically sustainable space for Black Students, faculty and staff—a home away from home where Black students can thrive and reach for their highest potential and discover their genius.
Let Freedom ring! Juneteenth marks 157 years since the Union troops stormed Galveston Bay, Texas to enforce the emancipation of the remaining 250,000 enslaved African-Americans.
Although our ancestors had never lived in a world where slavery ceased to exist, following their emancipation, they immediately began to take their rightful place at the forefront of mobilization, community engagement, and entrepreneurship. During the Reconstruction Era, 265 Black delegates were elected, 16 African Americans served in Congress, over 600 were elected to the state legislature, and hundreds served in local offices.
By the 1880s there was a large surge in Black-owned businesses as Black barbershops, tailors, banks, schools, and retail shops were created to cater to our communities. We are here today because of the fearless lineage of Black leaders that came before us and created safe spaces for our people when there weren’t any. To honor those that paved the way, we’re celebrating Black excellence in a historic way!
Posted • We at the CBCRR are conducting a survey to better understand the experiences and needs of Black students pursuing STEM or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields at our UCI. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us create a more supportive and inclusive environment for all students.
This questionnaire seeks to gather insights into various aspects of your college experience and desired resources or programs. We want to know what initiatives or support systems would benefit you as a Black STEM student, and how we can improve your overall school experience. Your responses will help inform future efforts to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within STEM fields at our institution.

Your participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences with us!
If you have any questions, please reach out to email [email protected], Michael Ekwueme, Special Assistant for the Center for Black Cultures.
