A Flight Dispatcher.....

Is not a Captain, but files a flight plan for them. An optimum flight route is selected to achieve safe flight with respect to operational factors.

Is not an Engineer, but has to monitor aircraft performance deterioration. Plans a flight taking into consideration MEL penalties on the flight. Also change of aircraft if the penalty is offloading the payload on the flight keeping IOCC in loop.

Is not an Air Traffic Controller, but has to seek overflying permissions of the countries flown by us. Need to check any closures during our flight which is issued through NOTAMS. Any disruption last minutes have to change the course of flight.

Is not a Meteorologist , but has to evaluate weather. The weather phenomenon plays an important role in planning a flight. On the basis of weather calculate the flying time and fuel requirements for safe completion of the flight. Avoids adverse weather.

Is not a commercial staff, but has to check the passenger load and cargo load. Provides and communicates revised information for Load control with total fuel requirements and aircraft weight limitations that maximizes revenue payload.

Is not a Finance Staff, but has a direct contribution and impact to one of the single biggest expenses in the organisation. Fuel!
Ensures to tanker fuel from stations where the prices are low.
A highly trained, qualified and experienced Dispatcher could save the company thousands of dollars every day (and they probably already do). Maximising payload, reducing unnecessary fuel burn, using their operational experience to avoid costly diversions, suggesting alternative operational changes to avoid down line disruptions etc.

Flight Dispatchers work behind the scene in co-authourity basis with the Pilot In Command in the interest of safety.

Please recognise the important work the flight dispatchers do and hence 'be nice' to your people.
