The CFWO Annual Project Grant Information Session will be held, on Zoom, Wednesday August 28th, 2:30- 3:30. The Session is free but you must register in advance at, https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAsduyvrDsrGdVBcMqpq82oUWyaeVpADs6E

Please provide the name of the person attending the Zoom and the organization they represent. After a brief review of the guidelines and the application form attendees are welcomed to ask questions about the process and completion of the application form. You do not have to attend the Session to submit an application.

CFWO is thrilled to announce that Ithaca Health Alliance & Ithaca Free Clinic is a Women Building Community (WBC) grant recipients for 2023. Diagnostic Services for Women!

IHA provides and maintains free primary health care, therapeutic care, and preventative health care services that address the unique medical and diagnostic testing needs of women. The Free Clinic plays an important role in providing this type of testing for women lacking health insurance, who are underinsured, or for religious, cultural, and philosophical reasons cannot take advantage of similar services provided by Planned Parenthood.

Provided funds will help support access to diagnostic and medical testing required to meet the unique healthcare needs of 120 women utilizing Free Clinic services. Free testing provided by this program will include: General diagnostic costs, including CBC panels; PAP testing (for women under the age of 40); HPV High Risk Screening; Thyroid Stimulation Hormone testing; and PPD and Tdap testing that is part of the Clinic’s free Employment Physical program. The majority of patients seen by the Free Clinic are women. In fact, to date the number of female patients treated at the Free Clinic has risen from 232 in 2022 to 357. At this point in the year, women account for 68% of new patients seeking Free Clinic services. Last year at this time IFC had 120 new, first-time female patients. This year the number is 201 (January 01, 2023 to September 15, 2023). Total new patient count is 54% higher than last year at this time and total unduplicated patient count is 31% higher.

Women lacking health insurance coverage, who find themselves underinsured, or unable to take advantage of other community medical support services, find access to the health care they need through the services offered by the Ithaca Free Clinic.
Access to free primary, preventative, and chronic disease healthcare is essential for economic self-sufficiency, self-care, and personal well-being. Free pre-employment physicals and related diagnostic testing opens the door to gainful employment. Regular access to free healthcare services, designed to meet the unique needs of women, ensures that the women of our community in need of medical help find the support and services they need.

IFC’s Healthcare and Diagnostic Services for Women program will provide free diagnostic testing (and related healthcare services) for women who cannot afford these tests. Access to testing leads to better health, employment, and in some cases is truly life-saving.

The City Federation of Women’s Organizations (CFWO) will be accepting applications from non-profit organizations and government agencies in Tompkins County for the Women Building Community Grants (up to $5,000) starting August 23, 2023. The deadline for all applications is 5 pm, Friday, September 22, 2023.
Marcie Robinson, CFWO board president, noted that grants are awarded on the merit of the program, quality of the application, and available funds. She said, “We are amazed at how groups are able to do so much with the $5000 award.”
