You don’t need to be flexible to do yoga ❌ And being flexible doesn’t make you ‘good’ at yoga ❌ It simply means you’re flexible... 🤷🏼♀

Social media can do a great job of making us think that the majority of people can do the splits, and if you can’t, you’re in the minority. It makes us think that being able to get our toes to touch our head in a backbend is accessible and you’re the odd one out if your body can’t do that.

We don’t see much yoga in inflexible bodies online as it simply doesn’t draw the ‘wow’ factor from us as consumers. The sense of awe we feel when we see something we think should be impossible. If we aren’t impressed, we likely don’t pause and ‘like’ it. And it’s our own interactions with social media - whether subconscious or not - that have curated this platform of ‘extremes’ so really we only have ourselves to blame 🤔
You don’t need to be flexible to do yoga, and it doesn’t even need to be your goal. If it is - great! - but don’t let the phrase ‘I’ll never be able to do that put you off getting started or thinking of throwing in the towel.
