Assalamo Alaikum Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Insha'Allaah the first day of fasting will be on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023. We will have regular five-time daily Salah at the Masjid. The first Taraveeh prayer will be tomorrow (Wednesday, March 22nd) after Isha. May Allaah SobhanaHo wa Ta'alaa bless all of us during this blessed month and accept our fasting and our prayers.

Assalamo Alaikum Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Nearly 20,000 people have died and more than 60,000 have injured because of the devastating effects of recent deadly earthquake in Türkiye and Syria. It is one of the deadliest earthquakes in over 20 years. This huge disaster has flattened thousands of buildings, trapping an unknown number of people in the rubble in the freezing weather. Survivors have been left to scramble for food and shelter. Thousands are still under the debris as they hear helplessly the calls of their relatives and rescue workers, and many of them are eventually becoming silent under the ruins, as the rescue teams are trying to race with time to rescue them.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them. It is heartbreaking to see such a huge loss of human life in an instant. May Allaah SobhanaHo wa Ta-áalaa make it easy for those who have survived, and give comfort and patience to those who have lost their loved ones, and may Allaah SobhanaHo wa Ta-áalaa grant Junnah without reckoning to those who have died and grant them the honor of Shaheed.

Prophet Sull-Allaaho álaehe wa sullum said in a Hadeeth: "There are seven kinds of Shaheed (martyrs) other than those killed in the way of God. Someone who is killed by the plague is a martyr; someone who drowns is a martyr; someone who dies of pleurisy is a martyr, someone who dies of abdominal affliction is a martyr; someone who dies by fire is a martyr; someone who dies under a falling building is a martyr; and a woman who dies in childbirth is a martyr." (Muwutta Imaam Maalik, Book 16, Hadeeth No. 36; Continuous No. 558)

May these words of our Prophet Sull-Allaaho álaehe wa sullum bring comfort to the aching hearts who suffer these kinds of losses and reward them for their sufferings and trials, Insha'Allaah. Our prayers and love are for all of them. May Allaah help the rescue workers to reach those under the debris in time so that more lives can be saved.

In these trying times for people of Türkiye and Syria, we call our community members to donate generously so that we can send our contributions to the rescue organizations working over there. You can give your checks to MCNET and write "Earthquake Fund" in the memo section. Insha'Allaah we will make sure that your donations are sent to them. The donations will be sent through "Islamic Relief USA" which is a US registered charitable organization with good reputation and reliability. Their website is (www.irusa.org) if you want to donate directly through their website.

Other organizations that are working actively for earthquake relief are:

Muslim Aid USA (www.mausa.org)
Turkish Red Crescent (www.kizilay.org.tr)
Syrian Forum USA (www.syrianforumusa.org)

A Muslim's Day in Ramadan 04/24/2020

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The start of Ramadan (1st night of Taraweeh) will be Insha'Allah tonight, April 23rd, 2020.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." Sahih al-Bukhari 1901

Let's remember to renew our intentions to fast in Ramadan and perform the best deeds to our maximum ability, and we ask Allah SWT to grant us baraka and accept from us all, Ameen! A person's intention when fasting, is to bring him/herself closer to God, i.e. to attain Taqwa (piety). The purpose of making an intention before every deed is to remind our inner self and confirm with our verbal intention that we seek the pleasure of God in our all actions.

The Prophet ﷺ said that the best of deeds are those that are done consistently, even if they are small. Whether you implement one new deed or more, set your intention, begin where you are most capable of acting consistently, and may Allah enable you along the way!

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The deeds are considered by the intentions, and a person will get the reward according to his intention.". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].Book 1, Hadith 1

A statement regarding the ruling on praying Jumuah through broadcast | AMJA Online 03/27/2020

Assalamu Alaikom Dear brothers and sisters,

There has been several questions from some members of the community in regard to broadcasting Jumuah online and performing Salat Aljumuah at home following the Imaam online i.e Virtual Jumuah.

Please see the official statement below, from the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America, regarding the Scholars Opinion about Praying Jumuah online and praying from distance:

Here is the link of this Fatwa:

www.amjaonline.org/remote-jumah-prayer/

A statement regarding the ruling on praying Jumuah through broadcast

All praise is due to Allah and may His peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.

AMJA has received many questions regarding the ruling pertaining to holding Friday sermon and prayer services in the mosque with the least number of people needed to fulfill the Jumuah quorum, while broadcasting the services live to the other members of the community for them to listen to the sermon and then follow the imam in prayer, all while in their homes. This would be to avoid large gatherings in accordance with the recommendations of state governments and health authorities, as well as to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The answers to these questions are as follows:

It is not permissible according to any valid madhhab for the gap between the rows to be miles long, with tens of buildings and roads as dividers between them. While they agree on overlooking a customarily small gap, they disagree concerning the effect of a wall, road, river, and the like, which would cause separation. Some of them say that the maximum distance allowed between one row and the next is three hundred cubits (about five hundred feet). The valid madhhabs do agree that very long distances (as mentioned in the questions) cannot be overlooked, and that this would nullify the Friday prayer. This has been the practice of the Muslims, is the fatwa given by the four followed madhhabs, and is an opinion closer to the practical consensus of the Muslims.

Furthermore, to have individuals or groups praying in homes while following the imam via live broadcast is a matter in contradiction with the objective of the Legislator (Allah), which is to have people gather in one place during Friday services and congregational prayers.

In addition to this, it is possible that the live stream cuts out, or lags such that people see the imam bowing or prostrating later than he actually did.

Another problem of allowing people to follow through broadcasting is that it may lead to people continuing to pray the Friday prayer at home even after this current pandemic passes, which would lead to the loss of reverence for Jumuah, and the above-mentioned objective of the Legislator to have the Muslims gather in once place would not be achieved.

That being said, there is no problem with the imam giving the sermon in the mosque for a small number of people in accordance with what health authorities allow, even if there are only three other congregants, and broadcasting this via the internet (or local TV or the like) for other community members to benefit from hearing it. However, when it is time to pray, those in their homes would pray the dhuhr prayer with four raka’at. The dhuhr prayer could be prayed individually, or in congregation as a family with one of them leading the prayer.

May Allah guide us to beneficial knowledge and righteous actions.

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad, his family, and companions.

The Book of the Remembrance of Allah - Riyad as-Salihin - Sunnah.com - Sayings and Teachings of Prophet Muhammad

Assalamu Alaikom Dear brothers and sisters,

We hope that you are all doing well and in good state of health and Eman insha'allah.

Last few days we have witnessed more widespread infection in our region. Although this was totally expected, nevertheless it was something we were hoping to avoid. As such we will continue to suspend our Jumuah prayer as well as daily prayer till further notice. We will continue to give you weekly updates on shura decisions in regard to our prayers and rituals insha'allah.

Brothers and sisters as Muslims, we are expected to follow the Sunnah of our beloved prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wa Sallam as he said "If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague breaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place." Sahih al-Bukhari 5728

The guidelines that are practiced today by major health organizations are almost entirely inline with the teachings of our prophet Sallalahu Alaihi Wa Sallam.

In addition to taking the necessary precautions, our beloved prophet sallalahu Alaihi Wa Sallam, taught that both blessings and trials are from Allah, and they are an opportunity to become closer to Him. He advised to seek Allah's protection in all matters, and then to accept His decree.

One of the supplications he would say was, "In the name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing"

Messenger of Allah said: “He who recites this supplication 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as- mihi shai'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim' three times every morning and evening nothing will harm him.” [Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi] Book 16, Hadith 50

Here is a link, for a list of important Athkar/Supplications you can learn and recite in your daily lives

We ask Allah SWT to protect our entire community and all communities around us and to preserve our health and well-being.

Assalamu Alaikom Dear Brothers and sisters,

As you may be aware, there has been recent increase in the number of COVID19 infected people in our area. Today we heard the first 2 positive cases in Johnson City and 1 case in Greenville, TN. It is expected that the number of infected people is far higher than the ones tested positive as of now.

In light of current development and spread of COVID 19 infection:

MCNET shura has decided NOT to perform daily Salah at the Masjid / Friday Prayers until further notice, in an effort to prevent spread of infection among our community members.

We live in such an unfortunate time that we cannot perform our daily or Friday Salah at our Masjid. As such, it is highly advised to put an effort and intensify performing religious acts in our homes by;

1. Praying Jamaa'ah with family members as much as possible

2. Listening to Islamic lectures and khutbahs online

3. Praying to Allah SWT to alleviate this calamity , cure the diseased and to provide us with patience during this difficult time.

MCNET shura will be in close contact with you through emails with further instructions. Please check your emails regularly.

Assalamu Alaikom Dear brothers and sisters,

With each calamity, Allah SWT brings wonderful opportunity for good deeds for people with good intentions. As we have been aware, the elderly have been strongly advised to stay home during this critical time and may not have the means to easily move outside.

In our community, if there are any brothers/sisters who may be elderly and living alone that might require help and assistance with grocery shopping/medication pickup etc.. Please email us back with your request and your personal information (name, phone number, address) and we will insha’allah try our best to use all resources we have to assist you and your family.

Assalamu Alaikom Dear brothers and sisters,

We hope you and your families are doing well insha’allah.

Although no new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed, close to our region, over the last week (except for the one in Sullivan county) as of now, we need to assume that we will eventually have more cases in Tri-City region. As such, we will need to take all possible precautionary measures to avoid spread of infection in our community.

Following the recommendations of the CDC, our local infectious disease specialists and our Islamic scholars permission, Shura has decided not to perform Salat Al-jumuah this coming Friday 3/20/2020. We will provide weekly notice regarding future Jumuah prayers.

We recommend all community members stay home as much as possible and avoid going out, especially to crowded areas, to avoid acquiring the disease. Our bi-weekly classes will also be cancelled till further notice insha'allah.

This is a time that we can spend with our families, listen to Quraan, do lots of Dhikr and an opportunity for learning from reliable Islamic online resources.

As for daily prayers such as Fajr and Ishaa, we are still praying at the masjid as congregations are small and only younger people are attending. We however strongly encourage the following:

1. Only young and healthy people to attend

2. If you have any symptoms of cold and congestion, please stay at home till you fully recover

3. Make every effort to make Wudu (ablution) at home to avoid congestion in the bathroom area

4. Make your stay at the masjid short and try to leave as soon as prayer is over

5. Bring your own prayer rug as there are recent data suggesting the virus may stay alive for longer period on surfaces than thought originally.

6. Bring hand sanitizer with you if you have one and wash your hands with soap and water frequently

We ask Allah SWT to preserve our health, cure the ill and turn this calamity into a blessing for our community and all communities around us.

Dear brothers and sisters,

We hope this letter finds you in the best state of health and Eiman.

We are all aware of the recent development in regard to spread of Coronavirus across the country. Although the incidence in our area is still quite low, we need to take all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Special precautions will need to be taken towards more vulnerable members of the community such as elders and individuals with significant heart or lung disease.

We recommend following CDC recommendations in regard to religious and faith gatherings to prevent spread of disease in our community. We will continue to have our Friday prayers with the following recommendations:

- Avoid close physical contact during greetings. This includes hugging, kissing or shaking hands

-Avoid approaching elderly in the community

-Make efforts to make wudu at home if possible

-after prayer is over, try to leave the masjid soon after

- if you are feeling sick or have any symptoms such as fever, headache, cough or shortness of breath, please do not come to the masjid and contact your primary care physician for further management

We ask Allah SWT to protect us and keep us safe and immune from any illness and disease.
