Toast is on the prowl for his furrrever home! 😸

Toast will keep you warm and "toasty" with all his kitten snuggles! We just adore this boy. He's definitely going to be a medium to long-haired cat when grown! If looks aren't enough to draw you in, just know he's got a personality as charming as his appearance!

Toast came to the AHHS with his sister, Muffin, and the two would love to stay together if possible. If not, he'd thrive in a home with another young cat or kitten!

This little fluffball is Muffin and boyyyyy is she a love muffin! Her favorite activities include purring and snuggling in your lap. This kitten is just full of affection and has the sweetest little demeanor. She is very laid-back and longs for kisses and little nose boops! Muffin came to the AHHS along with her sibling, Toast, and would love to stay together if possible. If not, she'd do well in a home with another young cat or kitten!

🎉 New hours and days of operation for Wags to Riches beginning next week! 🎉

We’ve received feedback from many shoppers wishing that we stayed open later. Well, ask and you shall receive! Beginning 9/17, we will be open an EXTRA HOUR each day! We will close at 6PM instead of 5PM. This will allow for a whole extra hour of shopping for thrifted treasures while helping needy animals with the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society!

Also, this is the last Monday in which we’ll be open to the public. Moving forward, we will close on Mondays to allow our staff two (well-deserved) consecutive days off.

Meet Lilac, a gorgeous calico baby!

She's got the typical calico personality; confident, playful and curious! Lilac turns into a little purr machine when sitting on your lap. She is laid back and would tolerate the company of dogs, but definitely loves children and other kitties. She enjoys snuggling.

Meet Frankie, the gorgeous Aussie! ❤️

She came to the AHHS after being passed around from owner to owner. She first had owners that were elderly and did not have the time/energy for her. Her second owner was a younger individual, but they worked long work hours and made the decision to surrender her.

We had what was seemingly the perfect person come along for her, however, it was later determined that she would do best as the only dog in the home. This individual has a kind heart and patience and is helping us by fostering her while we look for her adoptive home.

Frankie would prefer to be the sole focus, receiving all the undivided attention from her owner(s). We are requiring Frankie's adopter to either be experienced with her breed or be willing to do thorough research as we do not wish to see her returned yet another time. She deserves a loving, forever home with someone that is understanding of her needs. An ideal candidate for Frankie would be someone home often, that is active and has no other dogs in the household. She is insanely intelligent, very motivated to learn, and loves to please. Once her brain and body has been worked through stimulation and play, she loves to cuddle up with her person(s).

Somehow, Chessie is still available! She’s the perfect pup. At 5.5 months she’s house trained, super intelligent, easily occupied with toys and treats, and loves the company of other canines!

She’s 20 pounds at 5.5 months, so we fully expect her to be a small-medium dog when grown! Keep in mind, Chessie is a mixed breed. We don’t know what she is other than 50% cute and 50% cuddly. 😉

FOSTER FOUND! ❤️

Foster STILL needed for mom and four baby butterballs!

They are too young to be separated and are still nursing from mom. They’re a packaged deal for the next couple weeks! ❤️

Momma dog is doing MUCH better, she’s not near as nervous as she was upon intake and is allowing our staff to interact with her freely. She’s a sweetheart, just scared and wondering how on earth she wound up in this predicament at only 10 months old.

Jefferson says, “I was the only one not adopted at yesterday’s pop up adoption event. Everyone had such high hopes for me, but when the event ended I looked around and was the only one remaining.” 😢
