It is the formal arts agency for the Capital City of Juneau, Alaska and operates the Juneau Arts and Culture Center (JACC) a vibrant community center.

This week is the last chance to see the Sealaska Heritage Institute’s Juried Youth Art Exhibit and the Art Lab Showcase!
The Juried Youth Art Exhibit includes 12 objects made by eight middle and high school students from Anchorage, Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Yakutat and Mesa, AZ.
The Art Lab Showcase features a small sample of work by students and instructors at Atnané Hít. SHI has hosted open wood labs since 2017 and metal labs since 2023, and will launch weaving and skin sewing labs in the fall of 2024

The third Q***r Wellbeing Workshop is on Saturday, July 13th, at the Valley Library Meeting Room! Learn basic photography composition concepts, work through planning, framing, and posing yourself, and walk home with a print of your completed portrait. All supplies provided! This series aims to promote positive mental health within the LGBTQ2S+ community and is presented by United Way Partner Agency NAMI Juneau and Haa Tóoch Lichéesh - We believe it is possible in partnership with local facilitators.

About Andrew Sohn:
Andrew Sohn was born in Perth, Western Australia, and immigrated to the US in 2004. In 2013, Andrew graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. In 2016, he graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Master of Music in Piano Performance. This past December, Andrew graduated from Indiana University with a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance. His primary mentors are Emile Naoumoff, Natalya Antonova, and Marina Lomazov.
Andrew has been active as a concert pianist all over the world. He has given solo and chamber music concerts throughout the US, Canada, Italy, and South Korea. In 2013, he made his orchestral debut performing Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto at the Perugia Music Festival in Italy. In 2015, he was featured as the soloist for the Atlantic Music Festival finale concert performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. In South Carolina, Andrew was often invited to perform as a guest artist in concert series and events. In 2014, Andrew was featured as a guest performer for TedxColumbia in Columbia, SC. Andrew performed frequently as a member of the ARSnova Piano Trio, which was awarded second place at the MTNA Regional Chamber Music Competition in 2013.
In recent years, Andrew has been invited to judge several music festivals in Indiana and he currently teaches for the Young Pianist program at IU, and the Stafford Music Academy in Bloomington, Indiana. He has also presented guest lectures at numerous universities on wide-ranging topics from piano pedagogy to piano literature and history. In 2023-2024, Andrew served as the secretary of IU’s MTNA Collegiate Chapter, which was awarded Collegiate Chapter of the Year during his tenure.

About Barbara Mirano:
Dr. Barbara Mirano began her formal piano studies at the age of eight. Throughout her studies, she participated and placed in numerous competitions and festivals, including the Seattle International Virtuoso Festival and Bach Festivals. She has performed in masterclasses with notable pianists including Craig Sheppard, Diego Caetano, Barbara Fast, and Scott McBride Smith, and has performed recently as a soloist with the Kitsap Philharmonic. Dr. Mirano earned her Doctor of Arts at Ball State University, Master of Music at Kansas State University, and Bachelor of Music, summa cm laude and Presidential Scholarship recipient, at Central Washington University. She studied under Raymond Kilburn, Sławomir Dobrzański, John Pickett, and Irene Bowling. She is currently an accompanist for the Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Seattle, Washington,one of the most prestigious dance academies in the United States.
