Before/After Breast Explant Surgery

This 55 year old patient recently visited my office for her one year breast explant surgery follow up appointment. Her silicone breast implants and capsules were removed. Additionally, she had a vertical (lollipop) breast lift. She is feeling fantastic and is thrilled with her lighter + lifted aesthetic results.

Another day in the operating room, doing what my team and I love. Grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, one surgery at a time.

It’s been just over four years since my explant, and I forgot to do my annual reminder-awareness-warning-preach-TED Talk about Breast Implant Illness. I got a message from a friend this morning who had an explant this week (both implants were ruptured), and she’s already noticing some changes in her health. She thanked me for sharing my journey because she attributed her health issues and feeling like s**t to her age and the residual effects from chemo. As always, feel free to reach out with questions or if you need support. And if you’re feeling sick, it could be your t**s! Shout out to my awesome surgeon .

Before/After Breast Explant Surgery

This 47 year old patient recently visited my office for her ONE MONTH breast explant surgery follow up appointment. Her 450cc silicone breast implants and capsules were removed. Additionally, she had a wise pattern (anchor) breast lift. She is ecstatic with her results and is feeling great. My team and I are so happy for her.

Plastic free for 4 years ladies, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I am lighter, brighter, healthier and happier. I am in this beautiful place where I look back and I smile…where I look in the mirror and am proud, confident and able. Able to love me, all of me, every scar, & every perfection that makes me, me.

Dear younger me, I forgive you, thank you, I love you. Thank you for this journey home to my natural and healing self. I am so grateful for the loving relationship that I now have with my body. Loving myself didn’t come easy, it took time, it took daily practice and it took facing major fears and insecurities.

Some symptoms of breast implant illness that I experienced were fatigue, unexplainable rashes, yellow/brown coloring in whites of my eyes, brain fog and anxiety. After removing my toxic implants I could breathe easy, move freely (after healing) and reside in my own body, my own natural state of being.

I invite you to repeat after me: I am healing, I am healthy, I am whole, I am art, I am unique, I am beautiful and most importantly… I am ME! ✨🥰

Forever and ever thankful for my incredible Dr and for his amazing liaison .hicks_explant_liaison ✨🙏🏼

If you are struggling, please know that you’re not alone. My inbox is always open so please reach out if you want to chat, ask questions, share your journey or need any type of support. ✨🧚💖

WOW!! Feels like just yesterday but it’s been 3 years since I removed my implants due to

I was experiencing..
⚠️extreme fatigue
⚠️brain fog
⚠️anxiety
⚠️weight gain
⚠️pain in my side
⚠️bloating/digestive issues

And these just name a few. I also would wake up with pain under my arm everyday. Turns out my implants were moving towards my armpits 😳😳🤦‍♀️

I’m grateful now that I can give someone a hug and not have pain. 💕

Grateful to and the team for taking great care of me.

DRAINS REMOVED! And so easy. No pain. Just weird. Like a b**b burp. 😹 I feel great! When I first started looking into l explants a few years ago I remember googling "do you have to get drains?" I was SO scared of them. But after talking to so many women I learned they were more annoying than painful and they were correct. I had some minor discomfort on the left side and it went away once the drain came out! from 's office is an absolute gem and made the whole process so simple, painless, and comfortable. 👏🏽 shout out for filming! Not even 72 hours post explant and I feel amazing. I actually felt amazing immediately after surgery- better than I felt before surgery. I knew Breast Implant Illness was real but now being on the other side I can more than confirm it. Dr. and his team are Incredible!! I know I still have a huge climb ahead and the detox process takes a while but I have barely blown my nose since getting the implants out and if you’ve spent 5 min with me you know I have serious sinus issues. The puffiness in my face and dark circles are nearly gone. My energy level is crazy to me. I’m not tired 24/7. (I’m also resting and not working out so I’m curious to see how it changes. In terms of pain - barely any. Dr. Rankin offers a nerve block and I only started feeling some discomfort last night - havent taken any pain killers. First shower was interesting 😹 but all is well.

The drains will come out this week - they are closing up the space where the implant was and prevent a hematoma from forming. They are attached underneath my breast and I really don’t feel them.

There are 8 episodes of My Breast Explant Journey podcast available wherever you get your podcasts - there is so much information in those. They are posted in The Morning Show Podcast feed.

THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out with all the good vibes and huge shout out to the women who have done this already and have offered some incredible advice. If you think you have Breast Implant Illness please check out the group “Breast Implant Illness by Nicole.”

FIVE YEARS! Shout out to David Rankin MD, Jeff Rose, and the staff for giving me my life back five years ago. It’s crazy to think back to just how sick my implants made me and even crazier yet to recall how quickly those symptoms resolved after removing them (I mean, look at the difference in those pics in just TWELVE DAYS). In less than 4.5 years they made me nearly unrecognizable and rather than giving me the confidence boost I had hoped, nearly destroyed me.

To all the women who have implants and unexplained illnesses, please consider explant. I know it doesn’t make sense and I also know you don’t want to believe it could be the cause, but it will be the greatest thing you can do for yourself.

For so long, I believed that if I “fixed” my body, I would fix my health… All my life my undiagnosed, and ever-evolving Endometriosis, PMDD, CPTSD, & Pelvic Floor Dysfunction symptoms were constantly dismissed & blamed on my weight, diet, and appearance. Until desperation led me to a plastic surgeon’s office at the age of 24 (2016) convinced that a breast augmentation would solve all my problems… 🤦🏼‍♀️

Being medically gaslit for 24 years, I thought changing my body could change my health. The implants worsened my symptoms. Finally, after extreme suffering, I began to uncover not only had I been suffering with coexisting chronic illnesses ALL along, but now I ALSO had severe . The implants were exacerbating everything, making life feel truly unlivable…

Deciding to explant was both terrifying & hopeful. Advocating for the support and care I needed took years, and the waitlist for surgery with a trusted specialist was even longer. Speaking with & .hicks_explant_liaison brought me clarity and determination. Leading up to my explant, I wrestled with almost every possible emotion… On the day of surgery though, I felt calm relief and new found pride for advocating for myself all this time. Post-surgery, my first words were, “I did it.” 🥹

Since explanting I feel more present, strong, and beautiful. My chronic illnesses are still here, but I’m no longer battling daily; and have begun to build my way to a new healthy ‘normal.’ I can breathe deeply, give warm hugs, I’ve return to yoga, and have much more mental clarity. I’m still detoxing, and some days are better than others but everyday the little girl in me is slowly learning how to feel safe. My chronic illness was never her fault.

This journey has been far from perfect, but it’s been mine, and I’ve come to love it even more for that. The self-trust and gratitude I have gained far outweigh any remaining fear or insecurities; and I am ready to embrace what’s ahead with open arms!

To anyone reading/relating: I promise your body isn’t fighting you; it’s fighting FOR you.

“1 x 1, little by little, again & again.”

MY BII STORY:

I didn’t really know why I chose to get breast implants until I made the choice to take them out.
✨It was instantaneous- the second I made the decision to part with my implants I knew why I had gotten them 8 years ago: BECAUSE HOW MY BODY LOOKED EQUALED WORTH TO ME. I know this now because accepting moving forward without them meant I would have to FIND MY WORTH OUTSIDE OF MY BODY’S AESTHETICS & THAT? Well that scared me more than anything.
✨I was always flat chested & I always wanted bigger breasts. I admired how woman with full chests looked & aways knew I’d get implants at some point in my life but never felt a huge urge until my 20’s.
✨I started bodybuilding in 2013 & I got consumed by the entire world. I competed in my first show & won 2nd- I was ecstatic! A judge came up to me after the show & said “couldn’t give ya first with tiny t**s. Change that & you’ll go pro”….. I made a consultation with a surgeon the next day.
✨So I got them. I loved them. They gave me confidence & in a weird way were a relief- it was like one less thing I didn’t have to be insecure about with my body anymore. (For context I battled multiple eating disorders during that time & was the most prominent)
✨I competed more the year I got implants than I ever had & I wasn’t turning pro like that judge said I would, in fact, I was placing lower every single show.
My body was changing- slowly growing more resistant to diet, becoming inflamed, hormones all over the place, developing hypothyroidism ….. My coach dropped me that year & said “Good luck turning pro. You’re a fat a** now.”……. At the time I thought I had hit rock bottom, but what was coming? Well that moment didn’t touch what I was about to go through……
✨It’s funny now, 2 years after removing my I can honestly say I rarely think about how my breasts look in clothes but prior to my I thought about it daily. It’s like removing my implants also removed my need to constantly judge my body & in the end, wafer my worth on my outward appearance.
✨MORE COMING IN PART 3 TOMORROW

*𝒫𝒶𝓇𝓉 𝟣 𝑜𝒻 𝟤 𝓎𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝒶𝓃𝓃𝒾𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓈𝒶𝓇𝓎 𝒸𝑒𝓁𝑒𝒷𝓇𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃

I went public about my plans to explant 2 years ago & I remember sitting at a local coffee shop; terrified to press “share”.
I remember thinking:
“What if people judge me?”
“What if I do this & it doesn’t work?”
But mostly, I remember being so scared with all of the above, but mainly I found myself wrestling with the anxiety & maybe even a little shame by wondering this:
“Is my health worth how I’m going to feel about my body when these implants are gone?”
I paused, took a deep breathe & reminded myself; “YES. IT IS WORTH IT.” And sent the post into the world, knowing it was my first step to getting myself & my life back.
(February 2022)👉🏼But before I share my story & my upcoming (I leave Sunday to explant w/ 🤯) I feel a responsibility to this community to always be transparent but continue my mission to keep this page a place to encourage, educate, & empower women, so please, let me say this first:
As I share MY story I don’t want anyone to feel judged, shamed, or influenced with fear for their choices for their body.
I’ve been and still am pro body enhancement/cosmetic surgery if it supports the person in a positive, healthy way- if it helps you be your best self; I celebrate you!
My intentions for sharing this story is to be a contribution of awareness & education & without THOUSANDS of women sharing their story, I wouldn’t have found what I believe to be a possible solution to my deteriorating health after years of the medical world telling me “we don’t know”
I will be sharing more over the next couple days & as always, hoping to navigate this next step as graceful as possible.
I’m nervous.
I’m emotional.
I’m excited & scared sh*tless all at the same time.
Thanks for always being with me….here’s to getting my life back!🙏

I told myself this DAILY over the past 8 years. During that time it felt like there was no light at the end of the pitch black, miserable tunnel I was existing in. Looking back now, I’m overcome with emotions and the most blinding light. God never left even in the darkest times and kept pushing me to stay hopeful. I truly feel He also led me to

Regaining my life and my health has by far been such a saving grace that I wasn’t sure I would get to.

Feeling all the overwhelming gratefulness today.

This patient recently had breast explant surgery in my office. She presented with EXTREME pain on her left side and an unknown mass. Her silicone implants, capsules, and mass were all removed. The mass was most likely an encapsulated old hematoma. This is something that I have seen in the past with old hematomas and seromas, which can be confused as residual capsules.

Ok so I usually don’t share this kind of private information, but if it helps 1 person it’s worth it to me :) 4/24/24 will always have more meaning to me now. I have had breast implants in for 18 years. I’ve been battling weird health issues since late December and was recently diagnosed with Lupus. I owed it to myself to find out if I can get on a road to recovery without immunosuppressants and life long steroids. So here I am today, 24 hours postop. Although I’m in pain, I just feel lighter and like I can breathe easier. I already feel so relieved. I’ve never felt more like myself and didn’t realize how much weight I was caring around in the form of a foreign object in my body. The only regret I have is not listening to my body sooner. Dr. David Rankin and his staff were amazing from start to finish. Tausha .hammer and Paula took care of me the day of surgery and I couldn’t have been luckier, they had me laughing all the way to the OR. They all made me feel so comfortable even though it was a very vulnerable day. Special thank you to .hicks_explant_liaison for making this happen for me! You are a God send. I am forever thankful for that phone call. Goodbye implants, and happy healing!! ❤️‍🩹 If you have considered explant surgery- go see Dr. Rankin and don’t wait as long as I did!
