Another great year of AAUW Tech Trek at ! The campers got brainy with the Ascend Neuroscience course 🧠 one of the camp's four courses.

The annual STEM camp - an AAUW program - is open to girls throughout Florida entering 8th grade who have been nominated by their science and math teachers. Campers stay on campus at FAU Jupiter and engage in hands-on science and math learning activities and field trips.

Bringing together summer undergraduate researchers working in labs at and to make connections, learn about each other’s work and enjoy some downtime outside of the lab. Many thanks to UF Scripps for hosting again this year!

A new study from researchers at the Florida Atlantic University Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute and the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College investigated the underlying mechanisms behind the long-term effects of prenatal exposure to amphetamine. Their results found alterations in the expression of specific genes that cause behavioral changes in adults.

Tiny Worm Uncovers Long-lasting Prenatal Effects from Amphetamines Using a tiny worm, FAU researchers have revealed the underlying mechanisms of embryonal exposure to methamphetamine (M**h) and amphetamines, a psychostimulant used to treat a variety of brain dysfunctions.

Nicholas Moy and Rachel Kavalakatt - a pair of Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College students and Kenan Scholars - secured roughly $16,000 in funding for their start-up company, Glaucova. They earned the awards at e-Fest, an annual undergraduate entrepreneurship competition.

Three Florida Atlantic University researchers at the forefront of Alzheimer's disease research have each received a $350K grant from Florida Department of Health (DOH).

“With this funding, they will shed light on the biological functions of AD by taking advantage of synthetic chemistry strategies; provide an innovative online screening tool for older drivers with cognitive decline; and gain a deeper understanding of the role of brain cholesterol in AD.,” said Gregg Fields, Ph.D., FAU vice president for research.

FAU Researchers Land $1M in FDOH Grants to Fight Alzheimer’s Disease Three FAU researchers have received funding from the Ed and Ethel Moore Alzheimer’s Disease Research Program to tackle this global health crisis with their unique approaches.

17 remarkable seniors from FAU High School - Jupiter Campus were recognized at the Senior Research Symposium at Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience 🎓 🎉

As part of the partnership with Max Planck Academy, these students have access to MPFI laboratories and classes taught by MPFI researchers. They earn a high school diploma, Max Planck certificates and at least two years of no-cost college credit.

The Kenan Social Engagement Program at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College recently announced the selection of four scholarship winners for 2024. These scholarship recipients, or Kenan Scholars, were chosen as part of a competitive selection process to launch social ventures that they conceptualized and planned in the Fall 2023 semester in a social entrepreneurship course.

Schmidt College of Science and FAU College of Medicine shared their ongoing research projects. The session offered students the opportunity to practice presenting their research in a similar format to a national meeting.
