Mahalo Nui Loa to Kumu Rick San Nicolas.

We are incredibly grateful to Kumu Rick San Nicolas, a master of ancient Hawaiian featherwork, for bringing the sacred art of creating the 'ahu 'ula (feather cape) to Habilitat. This opportunity, a first for us, has not only deepened our appreciation for Hawaiian culture but also provided therapeutic value, aiding our recovery journey. As Kumu Rick shared, "The therapeutic values of the work help to soothe the mind and let go of some of the ways that may have led to the member being there..."

The beautiful feather capes we created under Kumu Rick's guidance are more than works of art—they are symbols of our resilience and personal growth. These pieces will be cherished and will play a significant role in our future fundraising efforts to support Habilitat. These capes could be beautifully framed and made into a piece of art to be sold which could help us give back to the community that supports us. Additionally, the manao (story) behind these pieces will accompany them, ensuring the cultural significance and personal stories remain intact for many years after they are sold.

We look forward to seeing Kumu Rick and continuing this journey of learning and growth together. Mahalo, Kumu Rick, for your kindness, and wisdom, for helping us connect with our cultural roots profoundly.

Our Habilitat Maintenance crew is back at work, and this time, they're focused on rebuilding our cherished pier! After taking a brief hiatus to address other important projects and issues around the facility, our team is ready to continue reconstruction of this historic piece of our program.

The pier is not just a beautiful landmark; it's a special place where residents hold meaningful meetings and form strong bonds. It provides a healthy outlet for reflection while taking in the stunning views of Kaneohe Bay. This setting also offers residents the chance to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us.

We can't wait to share more about the progress and the impact this iconic spot has on our community!

Our residents recently made a trip back to The Honolulu Zoo Habilitat to dedicate their time and energy by volunteering. Through their hard work and commitment to giving back, they're not only enriching the lives of the animals but also contributing to our community in a meaningful way. We're incredibly proud of their dedication to making a positive impact and showcasing the transformative power of community outreach. Together, we're building a brighter future, one volunteer opportunity at a time!

Community involvement during recovery is essential as it offers individuals a sense of belonging, support, and purpose beyond themselves. Engaging with the community provides opportunities for social interaction, which can combat feelings of isolation often experienced during recovery. Additionally, participating in community activities creates accountability and responsibility. A big thanks to The Honolulu Zoo for allowing us this opportunity and for letting our residents enjoy a day with the animals after all the work was done. We hope to see you again in the future!

Congratulations to our dedicated kitchen crew!

Congratulations to our newly certified ServSafe Managers! Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence have paid off, and we couldn't be prouder of this achievement. This certification is an addition to their vocational training and will open up new doors of opportunity.

It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of long time Habilitat Hawaii admissions director Jay Dodson after a long fight with cancer. Jay graduated Habilitat in the 1970's. He enjoyed it so much he returned again in the 80's and became the Habilitat Marketing Manager. He left in the 90's to pursue a career in sales and had great success. He returned to work at Habilitat as the admissions director in 2016. Most of Jays life was spent around Habilitat. He met his wife here, they were married 40 years. His wife, Betsy, and I have been in constant contact over the past month. He left us early this morning to join the creator. Please pry for Jay and his family.

We are deeply thankful to Giving Hope Hawaii for stepping up and generously supplying food to our program. Your support is a lifeline for individuals in need, ensuring they have nourishment and hope during their journey. We extend our deepest appreciation to your organization and its volunteers for the consistent commitment to making a positive difference in our community. Here's another heartwarming example of Habilitat reconnecting families. Yesterday, we witnessed a truly special moment as one of our residents got the surprise of a lifetime—a visit from his baby daughter, whom he hadn't yet met.

Beyond addiction recovery lies the opportunity to rebuild relationships and forge new memories. Seeing the bond between this father and his daughter fills us with hope and gratitude. May this be just the beginning of a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments together.

It's truly heartwarming to witness the joy and relief as families reconnect after a loved one overcomes the struggle of addiction.

At Habilitat, we believe in the power of family and community. Our program goes beyond individual recovery—it's about creating a sense of responsibility towards one another and the world around us. Through our holistic approach, residents not only learn to overcome addiction but also how to contribute positively to their communities.
