Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle is increasingly widespread on O’ahu, threatening all the coconut trees of Hawai’i. These photos of CRB and CRB damage were taken in Kane’ohe and Punalu’u, far too close for comfort. Many of the coconut groves of Waianae, Waialua, and Ewa are gone.
This coming week KEY Project has invited the folks of NiuNOW to Kahalu’u and Kahuku to share their mana’o on exactly what we have at stake and their experience from years of trial and error protecting their ulu niu in Wai’anae and Ewa. Significant emphasis will be placed on the uses, diversity, and mo’olelo of niu. This is a special and important opportunity to learn from our good friends in Wai’anae and ask questions.
RSVP for our meetings below so we can bring enough food! Will we see you at KEY or the Kahuku Library?
Stop and smell the roses? Nope! More like stop and look up at the rainbows 🤩
