👀 Just days after the unveiling Kansas’ new license plates, Gov. Laura Kelly has already halted production and announced a public vote will take place for several other potential designs following immense backlash about the new plate’s dull gold and navy look.

“I’ve heard you loud and clear. Elected officials should be responsive to their constituents, which is why we are adjusting the process so Kansans can provide direct input on our state’s next license plate.”

What do you think? Were you excited about Kansas’ new license plate?

INSPIRE: I had worked at a middle school in Johnson County, KS as an ISS Teacher, or In-School Suspension Teacher, which meant I had to supervise students that misbehaved during the course of the day.

Disrupting class? Speaking back to teachers and staff? Horse playing in the hallways? Throwing food at lunch? Room 103 is where you'd be heading.

I kept the classroom quiet. Students had to complete their coursework. No sleeping. No phones. No music. Well, except for my own of course.

Once finished, they knew the process: Grab a worksheet. Done with that? Here's a book.

The previous ISS teacher had stacked the room with plenty of good reads from the campus library, and during my downtime, I'd find time to browse the selections. And sure enough, I'd discover one book in particular whose theme and content would stick with me in a way none of the other youth orientated ensemble could.

That book? "Teen Success Secrets of a Four Time Olympian" by Ruben Gonzalez.

In it, Ruben dives into 52 ways in which teens can develop into confident, driven leaders that will achieve their goals in life.

Topics include, "Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude", "Don't Be Afraid to Fail", "Become a Person of Action", and my favorite, "You Will Become What You Think You Are".

Each topic featured a short and simple explanation or story with a relatable quote.

Ruben's book was inspirational, thought provoking, and overall, a very fascinating read. After all, many of the principles listed aren't just for the teenage years but are applicable at ANY age.

And as a 30-something year old, motivated, hungry, soon-to-be entrepreneur, those "teen success secrets" helped to remind me of my very own painted picture of success and how I'd get there.

I wound up reading the entire book in a single setting, and have probably revisited it at least 10 times since my first encounter.

With that, I'd like to take this Sunday to leave you with a few of my favorite quotes from the book. Hopefully, you'll feel inspired to think differently about something today! Enjoy.
_______________

"You can increase your self belief by the books you read, the CDs you listen to, and the people you hang around with."

"You have the power to choose who you will associate with, what books you’ll read, and what you will do in the next five minutes to get you closer to your goal."

"What you constantly think about will determine where you end up. That's the reason why associating with like-minded winners is so important. By creating a dream team and regularly associating with them, you’ll set yourself up to succeed by peer pressure."

"What you say determines what you think and believe. What you think determines what you do. What you do all the time becomes your habits, and your habits determine where you end up."

"You can develop desire, fuel desire, and sustain desire by vividly imagining your desired outcome, correct use of affirmations, and by associating with like-minded people."

"Ninety percent of success is determined by who you hang around with. You become like the people you hang around with."

"Whenever you believe something is possible and you act accordingly, the world conspires to make your dreams, plans, and aspirations a reality. Sooner or later those who win are those who think they can."

"Destroy fear with bold action."

“The books you read and the people you meet will determine where you are in five years” (by Charlie Jones)

"Focus on what you can do now. Don’t wait until conditions are perfect. Done is better than perfect."

"You get the kind of treatment you think you deserve because others see in you what you see in yourself."

"Wishful thinking has no power. The “how will I do it” always comes from belief. When you believe, you attract helpers because all of a sudden they start having confidence in you. Belief determines what you will accomplish in life."
_______________

And there you have it. Get up and attack those goals. Let's get it! 💪🏽

The creepiest house in Kansas. This is the Sallie House, located in Atchison, a mere 1 hour drive from downtown Kansas City. It's regarded as one of the most popular haunted houses in the state.

Why? As the story goes, the house was owned by a local physician during the start of the century. He'd often use his home as an office and examination room, while his family lived upstairs.

One day, a frantic mother came to him with her 6 yr. old daughter, who had collapsed from severe stomach pain. The doctor diagnosed her with appendicitis, and quickly moved her into surgery.

During the operation, Sallie began screaming in pain as the doctor was cutting her open before the anesthesia took effect. Suddenly, she died on the table, and laid pale and limp.

Over the years, the house had become notorious for hauntings. It’s said that the little girl’s ghost haunts the house until this day. Sudden fires, dogs barking at nothing, rooms growing extremely cold, objects moving on their own, unexplained scratches on people's bodies when visiting and leaving the house.

Due to these phenomenon, the house has even been famously visited by paranormal investigators and included on the Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, SyFy Channel, and more.

Today, you can book a 1 hour self-guided tour of Sallie House. But even better, you can spend the night.

What do you think? Would you stay overnight in one of Kansas', and America's, most haunted houses?

Port Potentially Coming to Berkeley Riverfront

Developments along Berkeley Riverfront—a new stadium for KC Current, an extension for KC Streetcar, a beer garden, outdoor recreation center, hotel, and more—may also include a new river cruise port along the Missouri River in the future.

Port KC, owner of the Berkley Riverfront development and much of its neighboring area, has recently received interest in establishing a port of call along the Missouri River by a yet-to-be-named river cruise operator that currently sails along the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.

Nothing solid in the works yet, but with all of the expansion happening along Berkeley Riverfront, the addition of a river cruise port would be another huge boost for Kansas City’s tourism and economy.
