Our very own Dr. David Trowbridge was recently featured in the Kansas City Magazine!

Imagine walking through Loose Park and your phone notifies you that a local historian can tell you the story of how the park came to be. This is David Trowbridge’s vision for his app, Clio.

Taiwanese American scientist Peter Tsai is the inventor of the fabric used in N95 masks, which can filter out 95% of submicron particles including dust, haze, pollen, and smoke. The N95 respirator was originally created and patented in 1995 for use in construction and was later discovered to block viruses and bacteria, which encouraged its use in the healthcare field.

Several years ago, executive consultant Stefanie Smith led a workshop for UMKC history students that helped several of them land new jobs. I too have benefitted greatly from her training by directing my career towards new goals. Now you can get some of her advice in a podcast. I recommend her to both students starting out and mid-career professionals.

On 9 May 1944 in connection with the planned operation of extermination of Jews from Hungary in Auschwitz, the head of SS garrison in SS-Obersturmbannführer Rudolf Höss announced a series of directives.

He ordered that the expansion of the platform and a three-track rail connection in Birkenau be speed up, that Bunker 2 (so-called little white house) was to be put back into operation and incineration pits were to be dug next to it as well next to crematorium no. 5.

Furthermore, the commander of Gleiwitz I sub-camp Otto Moll (in the picture), who was known as an expert of burning bodies in trenched, was promoted to head of all crematoria. Sonderkommando was also enlarged - from 420 to 620 prisoners.

Wonderful news from the KC Public Library!

❗️❗️❗️🤩This is HUGE: We now have a subscription to a searchable online historic database of Kansas City's The Call, a Black weekly newspaper founded in 1919! https://kclibrary.org/research-resources/research-databases/kansas-city-call-1946-2008. So far, we have received 1946-2008, with more full years coming, back to 1919 and through 2010, hopefully later this year. So for everyone who has had to guess dates and kill their eyes with microfilm till now, hooray! Kansas City Call Newspaper
