On 02/06/24, at approximately 2107 hours, Mill Creek Police K9 Hondo and Corporal Lerma responded to assist the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office with a warrant suspect who fled on foot after assaulting a deputy. The location was at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of 132nd St SE.

Police K9 Hondo was deployed and began tracking in the apartment complex where the suspect was last scene. PSD Hondo tracked and located a shoe belonging to the suspect. With the assistance of PSD Hondo deputies were able to isolate a building the suspect had likely fled to. The suspect was located hiding inside an apartment and taken into custody. Well done K9 Hondo!

On 01/27/24, Shortly before 0200, Mill Creek Police K9 Hondo and Corporal Lerma responded to assist the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office with a robbery, car-jacking, and assault with a firearm incident.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a robbery, car-jacking at gunpoint that had just occurred at an apartment complex near the City of Lynnwood. The suspects in this car-jacking went to another apartment complex in the 16800 Block of Larch Way where they robbed another victim of his money.

Citizens reported hearing gunshots in the area of the second apartment complex. The second victim had been shot more than once in the leg after the robbery. The suspects then fled the shooting scene.

Deputies spotted the vehicle a short distance away and turned to chase. Before Deputies could engage in the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into a power pole near 18300 Larch Way, causing powerlines to drop onto the roadway and ignite the stolen vehicle. Both suspects fled the stolen/wrecked vehicle and a K9 track was conducted. The two suspects were subsequently taken into custody and multiple evidence items were located. Well done K9 Hondo!

During the early morning hours of May 13th K9 Hondo assisted the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office with a residential burglary that just occurred. Two male suspects entered a residence through a rear garage window and attempted to steal a vehicle. The homeowner was woken by the sound of the garage door opening. The suspects fled on foot when confronted by the homeowner. The homeowner indicated that when the suspects fled he believed that also took the key to his vehicle. K9 Hondo and his handler Corporal Lerma arrived a short time later and conducted a track of the suspects. K9 Hondo and Corproal Lerma located the key that belonged to the vehicle on the ground approximately a block away.

This is another example of how beneficial the use of police dogs is in recovering evidence and property belonging to victims of crimes. Without the use of K9 Hondo the victim would likely have not recovered the key and certainly not within 15-20 minutes of the crime occurring. The suspects were not located and likely fled in a vehicle nearby.

On 12/26/22, K9 Hondo assisted the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office with an evidence search after a suspect in police custody ditched a handgun during the commission of a domestic violence crime. K9 Hondo was able to locate the handgun that was hidden deep behind a tire in the wheel well area of a vehicle. The handgun was hidden in a manner that would have likely not been found without the invaluable assistance of a police dog. Police dogs have a sense of smell 100 times or greater than humans and it again proved extremely valuable to our community and law enforcement officers. Way to go K9 Hondo!
