The Spring Crisis Intervention Team Class of 2024 for Portage County graduated 15 police officers, dispatchers, and probation officers from Portage County. The class spent a week learning tools to de-escalate individuals experiencing mental health crisis and the local resources to connect them with.

Yesterday was the beginning of Telecommunicators Week, and the city of Kent is proud to honor our dispatchers, past & present , with Thin Gold Line banners on Haymaker Parkway in front of the police department. This is the city's 5th year displaying these banners. Should you happen to be driving down Haymaker Parkway , please take a moment to look at the banners that honor the Thin Gold Line...our 9-1-1 Dispatchers! 🖤💛🖤

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week began in 1981 and is celebrated the second week of April each year. This week we offer a much-deserved thanks for our dispatchers. A dispatcher is generally the first point of contact, the true first responder, and the unseen hero. They are certified Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMDs) trained to provide life-saving medical instructions over the telephone. They quickly receive needed information before dispatching Police, Medics and Fire to a variety of emergencies. Dispatchers prove that multi-tasking does exist, and our dispatchers are AWESOME at what they do! They are truly the glue that holds us all together. 💙💛❤️

Thank you to all for what you do for the department, the city & your communities! This week we honor all of you with over 100 years of combined dispatch service and THANK YOU for your hard work & dedication... Please join us in congratulating Dispatcher Linda Leanza for the Gold Star Telecommunicator Award she received in recognition of her outstanding contribution as a police dispatcher for the City of Streetsboro. On 9/7/2023, Linda was recognized by Ohio APCO (Association of Public Safety Communications Officials) and Ohio NENA (National Emergency Number Association).
Dispatcher Leanza exemplifies the characteristics of the Gold Star nominees by her willingness to be a team player, her professionalism, by showing pride in her work, taking on extra assignments and tasks in addition to her day to day duties. Linda will always go above and beyond to help anyone who calls or comes in our station. Thousands of you have talked to her over the years, many of you on the worst days of your life. She is the senior member of our exceptional dispatch team who will answer your call and be the calm and caring voice during your emergency. Thank you, Dispatcher Leanza, for your on-going service and dedication to the men and women of the Streetsboro Police and Fire Departments and our Streetsboro community.

Officer-of-the-Week

On Monday, August 21, Officer Kern responded to an overdose call. Upon arrival, Officer Kern administered Narcan to the victim. Shortly after the administration of Narcan, the victim regained consciousness and began breathing and talking on her own. Great job Officer Kern for recognizing what was going on and providing life saving care!
