HOME | Kiwanis Internationa Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
Miss Mary's Parade was a great success today. It's always rewarding to see children learning, laughing, and having a great time. Whether it was marching in the parade, receiving their very own book and t-shirt to take home, enjoying ice cream, crafts, and bonding as families, today did not disappoint.
A special thanks to the girl scouts, KPD, KFD, Public Services, Recreation department, our very own Mayor Dawn Morgan, YMCA, DAR, Kernersville Little Theatre, Miss July 4th Lily Pike, our Emcee Dylan Hudler and more!
Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The Kiwanis of Kernersville is the local club that focuses on our community and our children.
We are able to see our mission come to life through our members, our volunteers, and the businesses and individuals who sponsor our events.
Let’s see the impact the individuals/businesses that have supported Kiwanis in our calendar year – October 2023 – September 2024 have made within this community! Through your support, the Kiwanis of Kernersville have made donations/contributed to the following:
• $5,000 across 9 schools supporting programs such as Terrific Kids, BUG (bring up grades) programs, and KISS (Kiwanis in Support of Schools). These programs generate excitement with the students, focus on improving school attendance, and improving grades.
• $2,500 across 3 high schools to ensure that students who met graduation requirements but could not afford the caps/gowns could walk the stage with their peers.
• $8,400 supporting literacy programs for the children (5 books cases/4,500 books). Learning to read allows a child’s creativity to flourish and their confidence to soar!
• $6,850 donated to 9 non-profit agencies focused on children’s needs.
• $600 to support 6 campers at YMCA Camp Hanes
• $1,000 to a family in need through Salvation Army during Christmas
• 2,000 books given away to children at Miss Mary’s Parade, Summer Pop-Up Camps, Downtown Halloween, Touch a Truck
• A free Touch-A-Truck event where 4,500 attendees (families and families) were able to see various trucks and enjoy a hands-on experience.
• The club sponsors Miss Mary’s Parade where children under 6 have the opportunity to march in their own 4th of July parade; ice cream and t-shirts, etc.
Our membership drive for this year continues! If you would love to find a place that focuses on the youth of tomorrow! Please reach out and find out how you can join/how you can help.
THANK YOU to the members, volunteers, and sponsors who continue to support the efforts of Kiwanis of Kernersville!
Our membership drive continues and we are excited to welcome Greg Whetsel as the 39th member of our club!! Greg is happily married to Sylvia Whetsel (also a member of the club); he is retired from Hilton Hotels, is a sports buff (loves the Ohio Buckeyes - but we do not hold that against him), fishes, plays golf, but most importantly loves his family. With 3 children, and 6 grandchildren, he and Sylvia are living their best lives in Kernersville and giving back to the community by being members of an amazing club: Kiwanis of Kernersville! WELCOME GREG!
Miss Mary's Parade - June 29, 2024! This is a great opportunity for your children aged 6 and under to march in their very own 4th of July Parade.
Our Literacy Program continues to grow as we delivered another bookcase stocked with books to Walkertown Elementary School!
The books are part of our grant from Reading is Fundamental (RIF). A contribution from the Lawrence E. Pope Foundation covers a portion of the bookcase construction. Volunteers create the artwork, working with the schools to incorporate their school themes. Schools will use the books for incentive programs with the students. We are so excited and honored to be a part of this!

Our literacy project reached another milestone today as we delivered our next bookcase/set of books to Smith Farm Elementary School.
Smith Farm Elementary School is a Spanish immersion school. (There are only 2,936 in the U.S. public schools.)
Kiwanis Club of Kernersville is able to stock the bookcases because of a Reading is Fundamental grant that they have received. In addition, a contribution from the Lawrence E. Pope Foundation covers a portion of the bookcase construction costs. Volunteers create the artwork while working closely with each school to determine their needs.

Today, we had the privilege of hearing Dr. Bill Greenwood, Jr., author (along with Patty Jo Sawvel) of Be the Bridge: Closing the Gaps in a Divided World.
This book shares Dr. Greenwood's journey: growing up on a 200 acre farm in Virginia to becoming an adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb to joining 25 missions trips overseas.
Dr. Greenwood's love of the Lord, his family, his friends, his community (in country and international) shines through as he speaks.
The book is available on Amazon!
