The UIster County Deputy Sheriffs' Police Benevolent Association proudly supports it's members, their families and members of our community.
Good morning ☀️
We are very happy and excited to announce our 3rd Annual Back to School Drive!!!
The Ulster County Deputy Sheriff's PBA is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Back To School Drive on Sunday, September 1, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Barmann Park, off Clinton Avenue in Kingston. This drive is in an effort to donate school supplies to those in the community in need. We will be collecting all school supplies children may need including (but not limited to) backpacks, notebooks, folders, pens/pencils, highlighters, markers/crayons, erasers, calculators, dictionaries, etc. Anyone wishing to help us in this endeavor can drop off any items at our headquarters located at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center at 380 Boulevard in Kingston. If anyone would rather provide monetary support towards our goal, checks can be made out to UCDSPBA with "Back to School Drive" listed on the memo line and dropped off or mailed to our headquarters address listed above. We appreciate any and all contributions towards achieving this great goal!
Any questions can be referred to Deputy Justin Watson at (845) 554-7007.
A special thank you to Bennys Pizza for donating an amazing Sicilian pizza for our members currently on duty. Thank you for your support!

National Police Week 2024
Today begins National Police Week. We honor the law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving their communities.
The men and women of the Kingston Police Department would like to extend their sincerest thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Kevin Sampson aka Corporal. Kevin was a crossing guard and often looked to lend a helping hand. Kevin was also in charge of the uptown parking garage and always wore his Kingston Police Uniform and patch with pride. Kevin would always throw a quick salute to our officers with a simple phrase, "whats up cuz?" when he came upon us. Kevin was a proud American who always seemed to have an American flag either with him or on his clothing. We will miss you sir.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
Today we recognize and honor all those in law enforcement who selflessly serve everyday.
It is with deep sadness that the Kingston Police Department announces the untimely passing of retired Detective Gerald "Tuffy" Schatzel. "Tuffy" started his career in the Town of Lloyd Police Department. He was hired by the Kingston Police Department in 1990 as a patrolman and promoted to the rank of Detective in 1998. During his time as Detective “Tuffy” managed many serious and difficult cases. Detective “Tuffy” Schatzel retired honorably in 2011.
Funeral arrangements for Detective Schatzel will be as follows:
Sunday January 7, 2024 calling hours are 2Pm-6Pm, Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, 27 Smith Ave, Kingston, N.Y. 12401
A mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday January 8, 2024, 11:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Church, 160 Broadway, Kingston, N.Y. 12401.
For the second year, Sheriff Juan Figueroa authorized members of the Ulster County Deputy Sheriffs’ PBA and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Employees Association to partake in No Shave November. This year, the proceeds were donated to the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute & Summer Camp and to the education fund for the daughter of Ulster County 911 Dispatch Supervisor Melissa Miller, who tragically passed away earlier this year. Together, both unions were able to raise $6,700.00 in order to be shared between the two causes. A special thank you to Sheriff Figueroa for allowing us to partake in this event and to all who participated and donated to our efforts.

Public Safety Announcement
For those not already aware, Apple recently released a new iPhone update that could potentially create a safety issue. The recent Apple iOS 17 update created a new feature called NameDrop which is defaulted to ON. This feature allows the sharing of your contact info just by bringing your phones close together. We highly recommend changing this default to OFF by going to settings, then general, select AirDrop, then "Bringing Devices Together," and toggle it to off.
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! 🍁🦃 🍽
