(As an aside - the article states that Distemper is 100% fatal in ferrets. What it doesn't emphasize is that ferrets that are up-to-date on vaccination can survive a distemper outbreak. Has your ferret had his/her booster?)

Oxbow Herbivore Critical Care has been on back order and we and other retailers are running low on Sherwood SARx as a result. If you are in a pinch and need something to syringe-feed to your herbivore or if you need to give them soup because we’re going into shedding season, you may grind your pet’s regular pellets in a blender or coffee grinder and add warm water to form a slurry. Depending on how finely your machine works, it may be hard to get through the syringe, so you can sieve the powder ahead of time if needed.

In case your crop in your yard isn’t ready for harvest - Dandelion greens have been spotted at the grocery store. 🐰🐢

PSA: Pets need to be secured in carriers and belted in when riding in cars, just like people. There are safety belts and “car seats” for dogs too. Keep yourself distraction-free and your loved-ones safe as you travel.

Rabbits need to eat at least their body volume in hay per day. If your rabbit is picky with their hay, come see us for suggestions to help them eat more!

University Place is booking 3 weeks out, so plan ahead, especially for summer boarding prerequisites and vaccinations. Limited urgent care appointments can be accommodated most days.

**We are able to vaccinate your rabbits against this virus. ** Please be sure to change your clothes and shoes before going into your bunny area and wash your hands if you’ve been outside. If your rabbit is up-to-date on his annual exam, you can make an appointment with the technician for the vaccine. If not, we will arrange an appointment with a vet for a health check as soon as possible.

These don’t look like your regular, run of the mill wild rabbits. Instead, they’re the cute, soft, ‘just want to squeeze them’ bunnies you’d see in a pet store. But now, those bunnies are in trouble.

Beat the heat! Our patients don’t do well with sudden changes in temperature. The weather this week is going to be a challenge. Please take measures to keep your furry friends cool in the early part of this week and when the temperatures drop later in the week, be mindful of your birds and reptiles. We’ve had a lot of calls about animals not eating over the weekend. Give supportive care (syringe-feeding if necessary) and check your indoor temperatures. Chinchillas, rabbits and ferrets in particular really suffer if the temperatures rise to the high 70’s.

Sometime you just need to scream your rage!
