Happy Birthday to the United States Army!!!
The Military Student Activities Collection in our University Archives are currently being processed!
There were 18 scrapbooks found, designed for the Arnold Air Society of USL containing photos and newspaper clippings dating from 1948 to Spring of 1987. Some scrapbooks were even put together using wood for the covers and back. These materials are being taken out of the scrapbooks and organized into folders by organization and year. The reason for this is many of the materials were placed in forms that are harmful to the archival objects and can be damaging, like being placed on construction paper and taped. Some of the pictures are continuously falling out of the scrapbooks because they are not secure and can be lost. The pictures will be place in photo sleeves where they will be secure and protected. The newspaper clippings will be placed in customized folders and the wood covers will also be preserved through phase boxing.
We want to make sure that all our archival materials are in good condition for preservation and viewing to sustain for the future and to clearly represent the history they hold.

Our Story
Started in 2012 when a group of non-traditional, Student-Veterans, gathered to share common interests in furthering their education. Quickly realizing they can organize to accomplish more. On top of the SVO providing the camaraderie we all missed once exiting military service; the SVO has taken on advocacy for student-veterans in higher education. We involve ourselves in matters that effect not only current student-veterans but those that have yet to come. Also, continuing our service through community projects and fundraisers to help disadvantaged veterans in our community. We know how to have fun as well by holding social events throughout the school year. On top of veterans the organization is dedicated to assisting dependents that are attending UL Lafayette. We know your sacrifice carries on through them so we accept them as our own.
The SVO is very proud to partner with UL Veterans Services, Student Support Services - Veterans, faculty & staff, Sodexo & Louisiana Spice, and local businesses to bring the Veteran Graduation Cording Ceremony in the Fall and Spring semesters. This ceremony is to honor the veterans that have now served their country and earning a college degree.
The SVO is currently working with the University to bring a “Green Zone” on campus. Be on the look out for updates on that.
