Making sure you are focused on nutrition not a diet. By now, we should all know that fueling our bodies, being mindful of what we eat, and having a good relationship with food is our main focus in Kaia nutrition. This means setting you up for a lifetime of success with eating and maintaining a healthy weight. Be sure you are not putting too much stress on your body and mind by strictly restricting calories or food groups. Instead focus on all the good things you CAN eat to help you feel good, perform good, and be consistent!

Add in more activity breaks during the day. Since many of us drive, work and relax while sitting down, try and break up the day with more movement! Here are some tips: Set an alarm at work every hour to get up and move or stretch. Start a stretch break at work with your co-workers. Stand instead of sit during phone calls. During your breaks go for a short walk instead of sit down to eat. Do a mini workout at your desk (squats, dips, push-ups, running man) Plan a walk after work with friends, or after dinner with your family.
Are you getting enough protein? Protein is our source for muscle recovery and building. General needs are .8-1.2g while athletes have a 1.2-2g per KG of body weight (lb/2.2=KG) Don’t eat meat? No problem, just be sure you are getting complete proteins from your plant sources or supplements! Some include: Amaranth, Spirulina & Chlorella, Buckwheat, Chia Seeds, H**p Seeds, Quinoa & Sprouted Lentils
Knee Health! How do we keep our knees healthy? First off, always focus on good form and controlled movement. When squatting, lunging and jumping keep your ankles under your knees to help with support (you should be able to see your toes when you look down) Also try and recruit your glutes, and hamstrings to do a lot of the work, not just your quads. Last, strengthen your Glute Medius muscle to help you with stability and balance.
Who loves cruciferous veggies?? Try to add them in to your meals and snack when you can. Veggies like kohlrabi, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, bok choy are all in that family (related to a cabbage) Use the heads for salads or sautees, the roots/stems can also be cut up small, sliced or peeled to make a super crunchy and cooling addition to a salad or side. They are high in minerals like copper, potassium, manganese, iron and calcium, rich in vitamins and high in fiber and antioxidants. Some benefits include: improved digestion, boosts energy levels, regulates blood pressure, and increases metabolism
