Dr. Julie Foreman, Lafayette’s only fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist is pleased to welcome Eunice native, Dr. Shamekia Nwafor, therapeutic optometrist to her team.
Dr. Foreman’s specializes in medical and surgical management of glaucoma with an emphasis on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery as well as cataract surgery. Dr. Nwafor brings an added layer of expertise, with interest in ocular disease management, dry eye treatment, glaucoma management, and specialty contact lenses. She provides comprehensive eye examinations including diabetic eye evaluations, the treatment of various ocular disorders and eye infections, with same day appointments available for most patients

Dr. Julie Foreman, Lafayette’s only fellowship trained glaucoma specialist is pleased to welcome Dr. Shamekia Nwafor, therapeutic optometrist to her team.
Dr. Shamekia Nwafor (Wa-for) is a Therapeutic Optometrist serving the greater Lafayette and surrounding areas of Acadiana. She has a special interest in ocular disease management, glaucoma management, dry eye treatment, and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Nwafor provides general eye examinations, diabetic eye evaluations, cataract and surgery management and treats various ocular disorders and eye infections.
Dr. Shamekia Nwafor is a graduate of Xavier University of LA, where she obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry and graduated Summa Cum laude. She went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at The University of Houston College of Optometry. She is a native of Eunice, LA but currently resides in Breaux Bridge, LA. Dr. Nwafor completed an externship at Coastal Eye Associates in Houston, Tx focusing on glaucoma management, refractive and cataract surgery management, specialty contact lenses and primary eye care treatment. She also completed an externship at Good Neighbor Eye clinic and Texas Eye Institute in Houston, TX which emphasized diagnosis and treatment of advanced ocular disease, ocular emergencies, and neuro-ocular disorders.
She is currently a member of the National Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. Dr. Nwafor enjoys spending time with her family, traveling the world, and mentoring to high school and college bound students.
