Mauricio Calderon ’24 majored in economics and environmental studies. A passion for sustainability was instilled in him by his high school education at United World College (UWC) Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he has accepted a job teaching economics.
Calderon is excited to contribute to the mission of peace and sustainability that has led him this far in his education. Because he has been open to many career paths and is currently a tutor at the Writing Center, returning to a place he loves to support students as they learn about economics feels like a natural next step in his career.

Kevin Howley has been named the new Vice President for Finance and Institutional Planning. “I’m excited to be at an institution that is laser-focused on making a difference in the lives of its students. While its national ranking among liberal arts colleges is impressive, the College is among the very best in the country at helping students overcome obstacles that might otherwise hold them back from achieving their full potential. Lake Forest College isn’t just changing the lives of its student. The College is changing the trajectory of families for generations to come. That’s a mission I want to be a part of,” Howley said. https://zurl.co/MNYF

Our livestream broadcast was appreciated by many far and wide, but it has come to our attention that there was a temporary interruption of the video portion of the stream during which a holding screen appeared, stating that “Commencement will resume shortly.” The audio portion continued without interruption. This was an unplanned and unauthorized interruption. At no time did the College interfere with the video transmission nor did the College edit the livestream in any way during or after the ceremony. We understand this interruption was upsetting to viewers and we will ensure this kind of error does not occur in the future. We are also reaching out to the affected parties to offer our sincere apologies.
Today is the day! Congratulations to the Class of 2024! See you all at the ceremony! 🎓🎓🎓

Looks like we have a goose whisperer on campus! Kudos to Mila, who has managed to befriend the geese. Another goose update: over the weekend, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources visited campus to check on the nest and eggs. The geese will be staying until the eggs hatch. We're glad our campus's efforts to restore natural habitat through prairie spaces and the rain garden in addition to the bird glass installed in Brown Hall have made campus more hospitable to local and migrating wildlife!
Thank you to all of the talented presenters who shared their art, music, and research at this year's Student Symposium!
