Portland's housing market is about to explode. If you're considering putting your house on the market, let me know what I can do to help. The median home price is climbing, and the rental market has yet to top out. Many homes are sold within a matter of days.
If you'd like professional advice on what you can to do not miss this wave ahead of what some believe could be a downturn later this year or early next, then let me know. I'd be glad to do a walk-through of your home, and make recommendations for you to get the maximum value from your home.

For three years running, United Van Lines has found Oregon to be the top in-migration state in the nation. Is it any wonder? Our housing market hasn't topped out yet compared to cities like San Jose and Seattle, employment in the Metro-area is stable, and the quality of life is incomparable.
If you're considering moving in 2016, the housing prices are still projected to climb and the rental market is hot. Now is the time to think about making a change before the market inevitably tapers off. Let me know how I can help!

This Lake Oswego rental is back on the market. If you're looking for a 5 bedroom, 2 bath home, I'd love to show you the remodeled kitchen, the two fireplaces, and the quiet neighborhood.
Listed for $2500 a month, the house is near downtown Lake Oswego, and feeds into Forest Hills Elementary, Lake O Junior High, and Lake O High School.
If you want to schedule a walk through let me know. You can start your new year in a new home!
This time of year, with holiday lights, dry Christmas trees, and lots of extra items plugged into outlets, the risk of having a house fire goes up. Here's a few things you can do to keep from having a serious accident at home.
* Keep the tree heavily watered and turn lights off when you're not home. Using a timer will help ensure you don't forget to shut the lights off.
* String tree lights high enough up on the tree that they won't touch presents and wrappers under the tree. Hot lights and gift wrap fire risk.
* Check the plugs on lights, ornaments, space heaters, and kitchen appliances to make sure there are no frayed or broken cords. You don't have to discard decorations if they have bad cords, but you shouldn't plug them in without having them professionally repaired.
* Be careful with candles. Keep them away from the tree or other flammable decorations. Make sure they are snuffed out before bed or leaving the house.
* Keep a fire extinguisher easily accessible near the tree, and in the kitchen during extra holiday baking/cooking.
* Keep pathways to exits (doors and windows) free of clutter and easily accessible.
Most of these holiday fires originate near the tree or in the kitchen so by being aware and taking a bit of extra precaution, you can keep from having a tragedy strike during the holidays, and protect your most important asset - your family!
It's one of the wettest weeks on record, and there's more rain to come. As much as Oregon needs the rain after the drought this past summer, this much this fast can wreak havoc on your home, or lead to personal tragedy as we've already seen in this storm.
What can you do to ensure your family and home are safe?
1. Check your trees. If you see newly exposed roots because of soil erosion, contact a local arborist and see if you need to have them come check things out. A tree toppling over because it's no longer safely rooted in the ground can cause a loss of life and property.
2. Pull on your boots and walk the perimeter of your home. Look for any water that seems to be accumulating around the foundation of your home. You may need to pump water away from your home to avoid structural damages caused by water.
3. If you have a basement, regularly check for water, particularly around doors and windows. If you don't catch water damage, it can leave behind an unwanted visitors - mold and mildew. If you find leaks, address them immediately.
4. Take a quick look in your outbuildings and storage sheds, particularly if you store valuable items in those buildings. Depending on the structure, water can easily get inside, damaging property.
5. Make sure your gutters are clear of leaves and other materials that would prevent them from functioning properly.
And of course, keep your emergency kit stocked and at the ready in case there's a power outage. Please share with others you know, and be safe my friends!
The rental market is one of the most active segments of the real estate market right now. The rental listing I shared was listed on a Monday and rented by Thursday of the same week, with the property owner maximizing their investment asset.
If you know someone who is looking for a thoughtful and professional team to rent or list a home for sale, send them my way and we'll take great care of them
December 1st is the official start to the holiday season. Selling your home during the holidays isn't as hard as you might think. Here's some tips to make your home festive, yet appealing to all prospective buyers who might come visit during this special time of year.
1. Limit outdoor lights to white lights. Avoid blow-up or holiday-specific lighting. White lights are attractive, simple, and neutral, yet still exude holiday warmth, especially on late afternoon showings when it gets dark early. If you're not home, be sure your lights are on a timer so they come on right when it starts to get dark.
2. Stick with candles and greenery for interior holiday decorating. The goal with holiday decorating is to leave enough to the imagination for prospective buyers to envision your home being where they celebrate their next holiday.
3. If you're putting up a tree, wait until the last week before the actual celebration to do so. While decorated trees can be lovely and special to your family, they do require significant space, usually in a key room in your home, and sometimes leave furniture out of place.
4. Be sure to put those holiday decoration storage containers away and out of sight! While it might be tempting to stash the boxes in a spare room or the garage, they’ll look cluttered if left out. Tuck them back into their long-term storage place until you’re ready to put your holiday décor away.
5. And while the holidays are wonderful, do put your holiday items up as soon as the holidays are over so you can successfully sell your home as soon as possible!
