Tonight, we watched the Olympics and heard Gabby Thomasโs comments about winning the gold medal and she said, โso many many hours behind the scenes that no one seesโฆโ (my paraphrase)
Isnโt that the truth about life? We see the big deals, we see the amazing moments and we forget all of that work and all of those decisions behind the scenes.
The hours no one sees.
The decisions to try no one sees.
The courage to step out of our comfort zone no one sees.
The faith in the future no one sees.
Success isnโt just the giant moment.
It is, as Gabby so eloquently reminded us all, the hours no one sees.
Yeah, success might not be the Olympics, but success can be in healing a relationship, starting the job, finishing school, running the 5k, working on your mental health, buying your first home, fixing your credit, meeting new people, writing the book, taking care of your health, putting in the hours - the places no one sees that really matter. and make a life difference.
So keep going. Keep trying. Keep having faith. Keep believing. Keep putting in the hours. Keep fighting for your dreams.
Those hours add up.
Even if no one sees.
It adds up.
Thanks, Gabby, for reminding us of that truth. Congrats on your Gold Medal and inspiring and reminding us that success is often found in the micro decisions that so often no one sees.

Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles literally bowed down to Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade on the podium as she claimed first place in the gymnastics floor final.
Apparently Simone said that Jordan asked Simone, "Should we bow to her?" And Simone replied, "Absolutely."
โIt was just the right thing to do.โ
Can you just imagine?
Can you just imagine if women ALWAYS cheered for each other so enthusiastically, so boldly, so unapologetically, so joyfully, so selflessly?
Can you just imagine if women didnโt feel threatened by each otherโs successes and used them instead as motivation?
Can you just imagine if women supported other women, simply because โit was just the right thing to do?โ
This. Is. Everything.
And this is why I love the Olympicsโbecause we donโt look to them just as an example of what we could be as athletes, we look to them as an example of what we could be as humans.

Iโm heavy on positive vibes and surrounding myself with people who make me want to BE BETTER. They want to see me win. They hold me up and still love me if I fall. And they really love me - FLAWED.
I am as flawed as they come but Iโm working on every part of me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
I listen to my body. I challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone and do hard s**t. And not just exercise. Life. Careers. Boundaries. Hard s**t. Out of my comfort zone s**t (Except elevators- They will NEVER EVER be in my comfort zone - so in that case, I move my body and walk 17 flights of stairs if need be!) and walking 17 flights is not in my comfort zone. No amount of comfort is found in hiking your ass up 17 flights. But itโs better than dying in an elevator. ๐ค
I work my mind. I read. I research. I listen to podcasts. I take online education classes to be a better teacher. I read about nutrition and fitness and parenting because I am a not an expert at any of them. Lots of times I suck at it all. But I dive deep into whatever it is I am doing because I will not half ass anything. I always whole ass it.
Unfortunately, though, unlike a lot of America, I am different from many because do not binge watch anything but the insides of my eyeballs. ๐
Flawed, I tell ya.
Iโm INSPIRED daily by people who seem to have to it all together because regardless of what you see in my โhighlight reelโ- some days Iโm tired, some days Iโm cranky, lots of days my kids are mad at me; I just refused to bring that energy to my surroundings.
I often drive Hersh crazy at 2am when I tell him my 5th career goal and I read my horoscope to him and make connections and then make him listen to all my daily manifestations and I tell him what I need to do to start that non profit I want to start and can he please hang the mirrors in the basement for me so I start can practicing some fitness dance for my next fitness idea- (Hersh - did you catch the hint there ๐คโฆ) and some days, I order pizza 23 minutes after unloading $200 worth of groceries.
Because HUMAN.
(But happy. And love pizza.)
Itโs about that time for me to give Hersh the daily recap and discuss how Iโm going to light the world on fire tomorrow. IF, and only if, I donโt fall asleep first.

Iโm going to address a topic that will probably p**s some people off - but in true SCFit tradition- I never been anything but transparent and honest.
Training 2x a day every day is not healthy. Clearly when you enter your gym unhappy and donโt want to greet anyone and others are hesitant to say hello or have a conversation with you - it might mean itโs time to take a day off.
I get it not everyone is a morning person. But when you legitimately canโt smile back or say hello to other members, itโs time to reevaluate your training protocol.
Donโt like what your trainer has planned? Take a day off. We see and hear the continued gruffs and eye rolls (and not the fun eye rolls because Iโm a terrible counter or I said โburpeesโ again lol!)
Itโs difficult for others not to be dragged down by the daily negativity.
Overtraining is a real thing and it contributes to mood swings, fatigue, increased soreness, and hormonal imbalance. Slower reaction times, reduced speeds and lowered endurance levels are all common signs of overtraining.
Check out the research. Agitation, moodiness, irritability or lack of concentration- again all signs of overtraining.
Too much exercise and too little rest can wreak havoc on the hormones and cause these mood swings and an inability to do your job.
Give yourself a day off. Give your body a break so that you are able to recover, replenish glycogen, heal your body and pleasantly greet people so that longevity and quality of life become more important than a number on the scale.
