JCAL condemns Iran's attacks against Israel—the first by a sovereign nation since Saddam Hussein launched scud missiles at Israel in 1991—in the strongest possible terms.

Our community stands in total solidarity with Israel and the IDF as they work to defend themselves from these brazen attacks, and pray for their safety.

We are thankful that the United States and our allies are standing strong with Israel and helping to defend her against the Iranian threat.

If your inboxes - both electric and paper - are anything like mine, you've received lots of fundraising requests recently encouraging donations by the end of 2023. Make your donation before December 31! Take advantage of the tax deduction! Give now!

Including or suggesting a deadline is a great marketing tool. Creating a sense of urgency will encourage consumers to buy, or donate, now. The IRS doesn't care if you donated on January 1, July 28, December 31, or any other day of the year.

JCAL did not request a donation specifically by December 31. Honestly, we're like the IRS and the specific date doesn't matter. What matters to JCAL is that you donate. You can join JCAL with a minimum donation of $36* per year allowing you to vote at membership meetings. You can support our annual campaign and designate part or all your gift to Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) to be used at their discretion in North America, Israel or in support of Jews and Jewish life anywhere in the world. Donations to JFNA specifically for the current war in Israel can be made here**. You can also make a gift restricted to JCAL’s Writers in Residences (WIR*) program or sponsoring an event during the year for $136. We truly appreciate your financial support. Your gifts help us pay for programs created by our shaliach (emissary) from Israel, Ziv Laskin, our annual Yom HaShoah commemoration, Israeli Memorial Day and Independence Day (Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut), Chanukah in Penn Square, and more. Please make your gift now.

Thank you.

Miriam Baumgartner
JCAL President
