is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.
Greater Lansing Chapter would like to Congratulate Michael Roberts, son of Trent and Santrece Roberts. Michael has been a member of the Greater Lansing Chapter for 2 years.
Michael Roberts plans to attend Navarro College in Texas majoring in Kinesiology as a football athlete.
Greater Lansing Congratulates Andrea (Carmel) Eiland, daughter of Kendell Sykes and Daniele Eiland. Carmel has been a member of the Greater Lansing Chapter for 5 years and has served as the Parliamentarian, Historian and Vice President in the teen group.
Carmel will attend the University of Michigan in the fall majoring in Biology with a minor in Business.
Speeches have been given, stages crossed and hats tossed. However, before this season comes to a close, we must salute again Jack and Jill of Greater Lansing graduating Seniors class of 2024!
Zachary Barker, son of Thomas Barker and Alane Laws Barker has been a Jack and Jill Greater Lansing Chapter member for 14 Years and served as Chaplain, Foundation Chair, Vice President and President of the teen group.
He will attend Michigan State University in the fall, dual major in Business and Performing Arts.
Jack and Jill Greater Lansing Chapter would like to warmly welcome LEGACY Mother Amia Banks and her family. She graduated out of the Greater Lansing Chapter and is now an active mother, excited to do the work.
Congratulations to Greater Lansing Chapter teen officers: Treasurer Joseph Eiland and Parliamentarian Gabrielle Ferguson for being inducted into the National Honor Society at East Lansing High School. Greater Lansing teen secretary Elaina Andrews was installed as the National Honor society’s new parliamentarian! We are so proud of you and applaud your academic achievements.
A decision has been made!!! Teen President Zachary Barker of the Greater Lansing Chapter will be attending Michigan State University pursuing dual degrees in Business and Fine Arts. Teen President Barker received numerous scholarships from several institutions including a generous offer from Xavier University. However, this young man knew what he wanted and waited patiently for it!

It's graduation season!!! Greater Lansing Chapter is excited to share commencement news of two Alumni.
MiChaela Barker will be receiving her MBA from Yale School of Management and her MPH for the Yale School of public health. MiChaela is the daughter of current Greater Lansing President Alane Laws Barker. MiChaela is the student body president of the School of Management and also received recognition from Poets and Quants as 2024 Best and Brightest MBA student at Yale University.
Aria Perkins will be receiving her BS in Health Science from Howard University. Aria is the daughter of current Greater Lansing Treasurer LaTonea Perkins.
Words cannot express how proud we all are of the astounding accomplishments of these young women.

The Power to Make A Difference!
Thank you to everyone that supported our chapter mothers and children for our annual walkathon. Your support means so much. Your generous giving is being used to “Close the Gap”! The funds raised will be used to ensure that college students have the money they need to complete their college educations.
Step Afrika was outstanding! Thank you Mother Buchanan and Mother Proctor for planning such an amazing evening for our chapter. The children enjoyed a rich cultural experience and were able to stay after for an engaging Q&A with the performers.
Associates Appreciation Jazz Brunch. What a wonderful time we had celebrating our amazing associates! We enjoyed fellowship, food, and had so much fun. We appreciated all the wisdom they shared with us, and left with hearts full of gratitude. Thank you to our charter members and associates for all you have done for our chapter. This past Sunday the members of the Greater Lansing Chapter of Jack and Jill of America celebrated our Founder’s Day with the mother members of the Michigan Centers of Excellence! The event was hosted by The Motor City Chapter and it was absolutely lovely. We wore purple to symbolize the royalty of motherhood. We spent our day celebrating our visionary founder’s and focusing on self care. What a wonderful way to celebrate our past, present and future. 🩷💙
Grade Group 5 Moms extended an evite to the entire chapter, attendance of the 39th Annual MLK Day of Celebration as a group. 3 tables were reserved for Greater Lansing mothers and families as we all enjoyed the inspirational message delivered by Ruby Bridges. The MLK Commission also gave out scholarships for grade levels 6-11 and high school seniors. Greater Lansing Teen President Zachary Barker, Teen Secretary Elaina Andrews and Teen Chaplain Gabrielle Ferguson were among the 2024 essay winners.
Being acknowledged for your literary work as a teen among local, state and national dignitaries is a great accomplishment. Congratulations Greater Lansing Teens, outstanding job!
Greater Lansing Teen President Zachary Barker hosted a holiday social at his home for the teens. A time was had with games, fellowship and of course yummy food.
Greater Lansing attended the Hip Hop Nutcracker as a Chapter event. What an amazing experience to hear a cultivation of hip hop music and dance. A celebratory time for all generations!
Michigan COE celebrated "Black Joy" Snowball event on Saturday. Jack and Jill Chapters across Michigan came together to celebrate family and community.
With community service at the forefront, the Michigan COE conducted a glove and mitten drive. During the celebration, we were able to donate over 3,500 pairs of gloves to COTS of Detroit. We want to ensure that children stay warm this winter.
Black Joy was captured in every seam of the event.
Congratulations Jack and Jill Greater Lansing Chapter for first place in the Service and Sacrifice Community Impact Emerald Award given at Mother's conference this summer. Greater Lansing also would like to congratulate nominated mother Ni Cole Buchanan for 2023 Outstanding Mother, Mother Monique Smith for Inspirational Leader and Harriet Gillium for Associate of the Year for Greater Lansing Chapter.
MWR TLC 2023 in the books! 9 Greater Lansing teens participated in community service, Plenary, free style rap, choir and of course the Senior Gala!
The teens bonded, made new friends and reacquainted with old. The conference truly embodied the theme, "Celebrating our Connection"!

Jack and Jill of Greater Lansing would like to congratulate Mother Lynette Long for serving the Greater Lansing Chapter for 13 years. Mother Long held many roles during her tenure in the chapter to include Financial Secretary, Program Director, Lead Teen Advisor and Vice President (twice). Immediate Past Vice President (IPVP) Long motto, “Jack and Jill is a Labor of love, you will get out what you put in”, is a one line statement that described how Mother Long operated within the chapter, always sharing knowledge and bringing clarity with humor and love. From giving the teens a quick text or call, to showing up to school events to support the smaller Jack and Jills. She has two children who graduated from the chapter, Conner and Nia Long. We thank you for all you poured into the chapter, children and mothers. You can now take your place with the Associates, You deserve it!
Jack and Jill of Greater Lansing would like to congratulate Mother Jennifer Pope for serving the Greater Lansing Chapter for 17 years. Her service and work in the chapter for almost two decades speak to her character and commitment to children and the community. Often you would find Immediate Past President (IPP) Pope in the trenches of grade group activities or hands-on, ensuring Greater Lansing teens were aware of local and state opportunities, scholarships, internships, academic programs, and more. She has three children who graduated from the chapter Devin, Allison, and Blake Haller. IPP Pope took on the leadership role as Chapter President during a critical time in our country, the pandemic. She has also served on the Executive Board as Program Director, Treasurer, and Corresponding Secretary. We give you your flowers this season IPP Pope for a well-done job. Take your place with the Associates; you deserve it!

Greater Lansing and several Michigan chapters celebrated Advocacy Day alongside the NAACP and the Divine 9 at the Michigan State Capitol. There were over 50 teens in attendance and several chapter mothers.
It was a pleasure to have NPD Marvis Donalson (National Program Director), RS Cynthia Miree-Coppin (Regional Secretary), and RLC Brandy Merritt (Regional Legislative Chair) join us.
Our teens had an opportunity to hear from the first black Speaker of the MI House, State Representative Joe Tate, Chair of the Detroit Legislative Caucus, Rep. Tyrone Carter, and a very special guest, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist - who was introduced by our very own Teen VP, Zachary Barker. The teens toured the Michigan Supreme Court and held a mini trial with jurors.
Special thanks to President Laws-Barker, Jack pack Thomas Barker, Legislative Chair Sanders, Jack Pack Tyrone Sanders and VP Lonzo for creating and hosting a fantastic event for Advocacy Day. Due to all the hard work, the Greater Lansing Chapter was credited as the host chapter for the event.
