ADVISE Interns attended a Teacher Preparation Workshop on Classroom and Time Management. The workshop took place on Saturday, April 15th, and was led by Ms. Maria Martinez, biology teacher at Harmony School of Excellence.

ADVISE Interns, Krysta (right) and Mari (center), attended a teacher preparation workshop on Saturday, January 14th. Dr. Gill (left) focused the workshop on science pedagogy. Students were able to create their own STEM toolbox!
ADVISE Interns attended the 2022 STAT's Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching (CAST) in Dallas, TX. CAST is one of the nation's premier science education conference where educators and science advocates gather annually. The conference features hundreds of sessions, a massive exhibit hall, and connections all showcasing innovative classroom strategies and resources.

Meet our newest intern, Daisy!
Meet our newest ADVISE intern, Lesly Villa.
Lesly is currently a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science with Grades 7-12 Certification. She joined the program this summer, June 2022!
Lesly wants to become a science teacher to influence students to discover their love for science. Her goal is to teach biology at the high school level.
“Science knows no country because knowledge belongs to humanity and is the torch which illuminates the world.” -Louis Pasteur
This quote reflects Lesly’s feeling about the importance of every student achieving greatness regardless of their background. “I will not only teach my students science but also skills and abilities that will aid them to become active members of our community.” As an educator, Lesly hopes to make a difference in student’s lives as they will be “our future leaders and professionals of tomorrow.”

The ADVISE program was recognized at the UISD Community Partnership Luncheon for our participation in the UISD After-School Program. Our student interns attend elementary schools and conduct hands-on science demonstrations to 4th & 5th graders. Thank you for this recognition!

We recognize Judith A. Cardenas and Daniel A. Zamarripa for their completion of the TAMIU ADVISE General Science Educator Internship Program.
Judith and Daniel have been a part of the ADVISE Program for over 2 years. During their time with us, they've tutored over 300+ students, participated in community outreach events, conducted science demonstration at local schools, and are an invaluable part of the program.
We’re hiring! The ADVISE Program is looking for students who are majoring or would like to major in the General Science with 7-12 Certification. The internship program will provide students with opportunities to enhance their teaching skills, network, and be better prepared to take their state exams.

Ms. Espino provided a workshop to ADVISE Interns this past Saturday, March 26th. The workshop focused on resume preparation and interview skills to better prepare our students to enter the workforce.

Today we recognize Julian F. Escalante for his completion of the TAMIU ADVISE General Science Internship Program. Julian has been part of the ADVISE Program for two and a half years. He is the first intern to complete the internship program and graduate. Julian is graduating with a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Science with Grades 7-12 Certification.
