Yellow Jackets of Otero County
This is a group that supports veterans of Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico in Otero County. This is were Honor Flight comes in.
We meet for breakfast and ride in parades to celebrate the heroes of our great nation. When WWII ended, the brave men, many that volunteered and those that were drafted, came home and tossed their dufflel bags into the corner of the closet, put on their "civies" and went to work. They worked hard, raised families and were productive citizens of their community. They NEVER asked for any recognition

Great breakfast with America's finest! Missing Bill Murphy.
It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of our friend William "Bill" Murphy. Bill is the reason there is a Yellow Jackets of Otero County group. He made sure this group got together, enjoyed each other and had great fellowship.
Bill Murphy, an Alamogordo WWII veteran was 20 years old when he entered the Army Air Corps. He trained to be a ball turret gunner but would not see combat overseas. He did participate in the Berlin Airlift taking supplies to over a million people in the blockaded Russian area of Berlin.
The Air Corps used C-47βs and C-54 cargo planes to make the drops into Berlin.
Bill traveled To Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight Southern New Mexico in 2016 during the government lockdown. He would also travel as a guardian on other Honor Flight missions. He was such a proud American veteran as well as a veteran's advocate, that he was responsible for signing up many Otero County veterans making the trip to Washington, D.C. with the Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico.
Please keep his AMAZING caregiver Kathryn and his family in your prayers.
Bill, you will be missed greatly, but we will make sure this group continues to meet and fellowship in your name my friend.

Beautiful day to honor our local veterans today. Special thanks to the DAR members who honored our own Bonnie Stage today, to the Desert Lakes Golf Course & 19th Hole Grill and Bar for allowing our meeting, and the Chief Master Sergeant Group who joined us today! Our phenomenal guest speakers were Four Paws and a Wake Up-NC & NM ...they have a FB page, go look them up. Fantastic organization. They gave me permission to post the video I took.
It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of another hero of Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico.
Mr. John Palmer enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in the European theater during WWII. He was also a part of the occupying forces in Germany. Mr. Palmer served in the military for 23 years. In 1964 he established his own business, Palmer Optical Services, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and also rode with the Retreads.
Mr. Palmer led a full, productive and patriotic life of service and we are saddened at his loss here on Earth, although we celebrate his victory over death.
God bless you sir. Thank you for your lifetime of service. We salute you!
