Celia was part of our team for a short time but she made a huge impact. Her sense of humor, huge heart, infectious smile and loving personality will be missed. She made every day special.
Obituary for Celia Hernandez at Baca's Funeral Chapels and Sunset Crematory Las Cruces It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of 77 year old Celia Hernandez on August 12, 2024. She was born February 7, 1947 in Las Mesa, NM to Amalia and Marcos Roman. Our beloved Celia Hernandez was a beautiful person inside and out. A strong woman of God,
Panleuk is a very big issue in our area currently. It is Highly Contagious and Often Fatal, especially in kittens. We STRONGLY, STRONGLY recommend you get your kittens and cats vaccinated.

Thank you to everyone that is supporting this …
UPDATE-Every one of you is amazing and appreciated. The response to our WishList and SNAP donations has far exceeded my wildest dreams. As a result, we are working to establish an avenue for some of the funding to go into other community programs for veterinary care. ARF-The Animal Relief Fund-can now accept donations towards "The Schumacher Grant." This money is designated towards use to treat illness or injury for this same population of animals. Applicants do have to meet specific requirements, I'm happy to discuss details with anyone who has questions. Anyone who is interested, please reach out to my ARF coordinator, Sarah Kurtz. She can be reached at (575)647-4808, office is located at 424 N. Main Street. Again, donation receipts are available for anyone who needs one. THANK YOU!!
Help if you can…
Updated *again*
I'll post more details later, but the response to our efforts has been far beyond anything I had ever hoped for. Every one of you is amazing and appreciated. ETA—AMAZING outpouring of support from those near and far. I updated the Amazon Wish List to delete those items that are already fulfilled. There’s still a few things we need, and of course, please reach out to Rachael Snow at SNAP so we can see this project through to completion!! ❤️🐺❤️🐺

So, so thankful for all the support that SVC has received from our clients and the local community. Many of you have asked how to help...I'll post some details below on how to communicate your concerns to the City of Las Cruces and City Council--everyone's input is needed and appreciated!! I'm grateful for offers from multiple Council members to come out and meet with me over the next few weeks--this is the first step in the right direction!! But, as usual...I've developed a "pet" project of my very own and it needs your help ❤
Todd and I both grew up in Las Cruces and still strongly believe in the value of our community. The Veterinary Clinic is in many ways our life and our legacy. I can't stand thinking that I might not be able to do my job, or worse yet, that human loss would occur on my watch. I'm pretty apolitical myself, but it's obvious that the current strategies aren't working. SVC and all the other small businesses in Las Cruces ARE worth fighting for. I also strongly believe that no one should complain about a problem unless they are willing to be part of the solution...
Although I disagree with some of their rules and don't align myself with Camp Hope, I do see it as a starting place for me to make a difference personally. Camp Hope does allow residents to keep their animals, unlike many other organizations. I've been in contact with their Outreach Coordinator, who has helped me to set up a vaccination clinic to start reaching these pets in need. Our first clinic is set for April 10 and I'm happy to have the support of many local business owners through Businesses For a Safer Las Cruces to help back my efforts. But I still need help....
1. We are working to put together aid bags for each dog we see during the initial vaccination clinic. Boehringer-Ingelheim and my AWESOME rep, Shellie Dutton, have donated 100 vaccination packages (3-year Rabies and Distemper-Parvo vaccines). BI is also covering a month of flea and tick preventative for each patient that we see—thank you!! SVC will cover any additional vaccines as well as microchips during this event. We are trying to put together 100 aid bags for the dogs we see. In the comments is a link to my Amazon Wish List for anyone who wishes to contribute--anything is appreciated! This list shows items and quantities needed. We need the bags to stay uniform and consistent, so please don't deviate from my list. Please order from the list to help me keep track, and I believe you can also have items shipped directly to the clinic this way. Thank you--anything helps!!
2. Longer term....I will keep working with the Outreach Coordinator, but I want to help ensure these pets are spayed and neutered. Rachael Snow, my SNAP coordinator (Spay & Neuter Action Program "snap")--and another AMAZING individual--estimates a very high need among the population in question. SNAP already has some funding to cover the surgical costs for these specific patients, what they lack is a sponsor to cover the co-pay for each pet ($75 for dogs) and a vet to perform the surgeries. I am willing to work on my days off to cover these cases if we can find local businesses or private citizens to cover even 1-2 of these surgeries apiece. You can receive a donation receipt for these sponsorships. Please reach out to Racheal if you might be able to help us--her contact information is posted in the comments as well.
Anything is appreciated!! Thanks to everyone for being awesome 😊
